Good afternoon New Yorkers,
Our administration has always put our money where our mouth is — literally. This week, we announced new investments and initiatives to make our beloved “concrete jungle” more affordable, inclusive, and vibrant for all. Since day one, we’ve been committed to making this the best place to raise your family, no matter what your zip code is. Here’s some of how we’ve fulfilled that promise: |
- Celebrating major wins for housing affordability – We celebrated the one-year anniversary of our historic "City of Yes" legislation that pledged to build a little more housing in every neighborhood. By working with the governor and our partners in the City Council, we were able to update antiquated zoning laws, invest in historic amounts of affordable housing for New Yorkers, and seal our legacy as the most PRO-HOUSING administration in city history.
- Connecting more non-English speakers to city government – We just made city services even more accessible. We directed city agencies to explore ways to use technology to better serve non-English speakers. We’re also installing language-access apps on all city-owned smart devices, equipping NYPD officers with translation tools, and having New York City Public Schools develop a new app all in an effort to better communicate with all New Yorkers. This builds on existing city efforts, like offering 311 interpretation in more than 175 languages.
- Reimagining the Coney Island boardwalk – We announced a $1 BILLION investment to create 1,500 new homes, upgrade 2.7 miles of the iconic Riegelmann Boardwalk, and renovate the Abe Stark Sports Center in Coney Island. Importantly, the reconstructed boardwalk will be able to better adapt to climate change, while preserving the landmark’s character. We’re also improving public facilities, such as restrooms, lifeguard stations, and shade pavilions.

↳ Three things to know this week:
- As temperatures continue to cool this season, we want to remind New Yorkers that you may qualify to get your heating costs covered. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) assists New Yorkers with heat and heat repair costs during the colder months. Check your eligibility here or please share with loved ones who may need assistance.
- The NYC affordable housing lottery currently has 31 open rental lotteries across the five boroughs. These even include renovated luxury buildings with rooftop pools, laundry on site, doormen, and other amenities. Additionally, 13 of these buildings have units with rent below $1,000. Learn more and check out what's available here!
- Our administration has put over $30 billion back into the pockets of working-class New Yorkers, and we’re not stopping there! Too often, New Yorkers don’t know they’re eligible for certain benefits and miss out on what they’re entitled to. Explore the Adams administration’s interactive resource guide to see what you may qualify for.

Stay warm this weekend, New York. To our nearly 1 million Jewish brothers and sisters in the five boroughs getting ready to light your menorahs on Sunday, Happy Hanukkah! I wish you and your loved ones a safe and special celebration during the “Festival of Lights.” This holiday reminds us all that even in moments of great darkness, there will always be light. Your mayor, Eric
