New Yorkers, hello from City Hall!
Our team works every day to make this a safer, more affordable city for you and your loved ones. And this week was no different with new efforts to build more affordable housing, maintain order and keep you safe on our streets, and reimagine public spaces to create more vibrant communities. This past week, we acted to: |
- Set a speed limit for e-bikes and e-scooters – Effective October 24, e-bikes and e-scooters will be prohibited from traveling faster than 15 MPH in New York City. By keeping our promise and implementing this rule, we’re enhancing public safety for all New Yorkers on our streets and mirroring best safety practices from around the world.
- Kick off NYC’s “Affordable Autumn” – We’re rolling out initiatives to help keep MORE money in your pocket and live up to our title as the “most pro-housing administration” in NYC history! We started “Affordable Autumn” by announcing that we’re transforming 10 city-owned properties into nearly 10,000 new homes and that we’re taking next steps towards building 100% affordable family-friendly housing adjacent to a public library!
- Reimagine the Brooklyn Marine Terminal – We celebrated the passage of our historic vision to turn the Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a modern maritime port and vibrant community! This $3.5 billion vision will create a 60-acre all-electric port, 28 acres of new open space, 6,000 homes, 39,000 jobs, and an estimated $18 billion in economic impact.

↳ Three things to know this week:
- Our NYC Department of Transportation is giving away free booster seats for National Child Passenger Safety Week! The inflatable booster seats for children, ages 4 to 11, are available at distribution events across the boroughs on a first-come, first-served basis. Families will also get important car safety tips for their little ones.
- Calling all pet-lovers! NYC’s Animal Care Centers are filled with loving cats, dogs, and small pets looking for a fur-ever home. By adopting, fostering, or volunteering, you can make a life-changing difference for an animal in need. Look at their adorable available animals here!
- As the seasons change, be sure to get real-time city weather and emergency alerts texted directly to your phone through Notify NYC. Just text “NOTIFYNYC” to 692-692 to subscribe! If you reply with your zip code, you’ll also receive neighborhood-specific updates.
