New Yorkers, hello from City Hall!
This week was all about looking after our neighbors and setting up generations of New Yorkers for success — whether they’re a kindergartener just starting their journey or an adult living with a serious mental illness in need of housing. That’s just the New York way. This past week, we acted to: |
|
|
- Give FREE laptops out to 350,000 students – We partnered with T-Mobile and Dell to provide NYC public school students with FREE Chromebooks with FREE internet access! Just in time for the new school year, students will have the tools they need to learn during the school day and beyond. This is our latest effort to bridge the digital divide across the five boroughs, delivering a better future for the children of working-class families and our city at large.
- Support New Yorkers with severe mental illness – NYC Health + Hospitals just opened its new "Bridge to Home" facility in Manhattan, which aims to provide stable housing, meals, and care to patients with severe mental illness who would otherwise have no place to go once discharged from the hospital. Our goal is to prevent homelessness and help our fellow New Yorkers continue to get the services they need and the behavioral health care they deserve.
- Bring more affordable housing and the arts to Brownsville – We broke ground on the Brownsville Arts Center and Apartments, which will create 283 new affordable apartments and open a 28,000 square-foot cultural center with performance spaces and studios. We're continuing our streak as the most pro-housing administration in city history and investing $100 million into this project to build new homes and more welcoming community spaces in the neighborhood!

↳ Three things to know this week:
|
|
|
- New York City has an easy-to-use site to determine which free city benefits you may qualify for! The site can connect you with 30+ programs to help save money, find work, secure affordable housing, and more. Many New Yorkers don’t know what they’re eligible for and miss out on programs designed to help our neighbors succeed, so get started and apply today!
- The popular Feast of San Gennaro street fair returns to Little Italy from September 11 through 21! Since 1926, this beloved Italian‑American festival brings a delicious celebration of culture, community, and history to a scenic stretch of Mulberry Street. Enjoy the live music, carnival attractions, and all‑star eats at this classic New York occasion!
- School is back in session, and that means our free breakfast, lunch, and afterschool meals are also back for all public school students! Our meals are student-tested, delicious, and posted online to check out ahead of time. Take a look at what we’re cheffing up here.

New Yorkers, as you know, tomorrow will be another sorrowful 9/11 anniversary for our city. Twenty-four years ago, thousands of family members, friends, loved ones, and first responder heroes were taken from us. The pain never fully dulls.
We'll honor their memory tomorrow and forever. If you'd like to join in our city’s remembrance, you can stream the 9/11 Memorial 24th Annual Commemoration Ceremony online, attend Lincoln Center's annual Table of Silence Project 9/11, or visit the memorial spaces in NYC Parks. The awe-inspiring Tribute in Light will also once again captivate our skies after dark.
And on Sunday, at 10:30 AM, be sure to tune in to 107.5 FM WBLS to hear directly from City Hall and listen to a live conversation about the powerful new art exhibit we have in the City Hall Rotunda to remember 9/11 and the first responders who put their lives on the line that day and in the months and years after.
