šŸŽ New Yorkers, the year is wrapping up soon, but our work continues. Day after day, we keep delivering for the working-class people and families of our city. Here’s an overview of what we did this week in the Big Apple.

Good evening New Yorkers,Ā

The year is winding down quickly, but we’ll keep delivering for you until our very last day in office. From day one, this administration has remained committed to making this a safer, more affordable city for you, and this week, we continued to announce major wins for the working-class families of our city:Ā

  • Turning a dilapidated field into a ā€œField of Dreamsā€ – With an $11 million investment, we just finished transforming the old dirt field at Brigadier General Charles Young Playground in Harlem into a state-of-the-art multi-sport space! We're calling it the ā€œHarlem Field of Dreamsā€ because we know it will not only help children chase their dreams, but also keep them safe.
  • Delivering historic wins for workers’ rights – Our NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection announced the BIGGEST employment settlement in city history on behalf of over 15,000 Starbucks workers! The company was found to be in repeated violation of the Fair Workweek Law, and now they must pay more than $35 million to their employees. From the start, this administration has been committed to fighting for working-class New Yorkers and this is just our latest win for them.
  • Driving down rat sightings all year long – We continue to take huge strides in our ā€œWar on Rats.ā€ For the past 12 straight months, we’ve successfully driven down rat sightings citywide! That’s a 20% decline overall, and it’s a strong testament to the impact of our administration’s citywide trash containerization rules that have moved mountains of trash bags off of our streets and into securely lidded bins.

↳ Three things to know this week:

  1. Remember: New York City has room temperature and hot water requirements for residential buildings to ensure you stay warm during our colder months. Learn more about NYC's ā€œHeat Seasonā€ temperature rules here. If your landlord isn’t complying, please call 311 or file a report online.Ā
  2. Want real-time updates on extreme weather, transit delays, power outages, school closures, and more in the language of your choice? Text NOTIFYNYC to 692-692. When you respond with your zip code, you’ll also receive hyperlocal updates.Ā Ā
  3. It’s holiday market season in NYC, and we’re proudly home to two of the top-ranked holiday markets in the WORLD! From Caribbean coco bread to artisanal Japanese crafts, our city’s diverse holiday markets truly have something for everyone. Check out this guide to find the right one for you.Ā

Before you go, did you know…

...millions of visitors hit New York City’s retail and shopping districts last year? New year-end data from 2024 shows that foot traffic in our major shopping hubs dramatically increased across the boroughs on Black Friday and December weekends last year. With our lively seasonal markets, iconic department stores, and festivities all around, this magical time of year adds hundreds of millions of dollars to our city’s economy and brings joy to the millions of New Yorkers who call our city home.
