The inherent obstacles and challenges of waging a Third Party campaign in the United States are well-documented. From ballot-access restrictions to debate exclusion, candidates running outside the two-party system are virtually doomed to failure. The stigma attached to socialism in the U.S. leaves Socialist candidates with even less reason for hope. Yet Socialist candidates continue to run. Find out why.

Women have always played a critical, if sometimes overlooked, role in leftist movements but women's struggle against patriarchy is not always focused on society at large. Women have also been fighting for left groups and other formations to become more inclusive spaces where women's voices and ideas are valued. This panel will look at the history of the feminist movement and explore the ways in which women have worked to create formations that embody feminist values. Drawing on the history of left feminist organizing in the 1960's and 70's, this panel will discuss the role of women in the Occupy Movement and the Organized Left. Topics addressed will be how women organizers can learn from past movements, the role of facilitation in creating inclusive structures, how women can work together inside organizations to help undermine internal patriarchy.
