Given the lack of health of both the PG, and Shadowfist in general, I have a suggestion:

We should transition away from playing Shadowfist, and start playing other board/card games. People should still bring Fist decks, as a fallback game, if nothing else, and we may still want to organize the occasional draft, but if we want to keep the PG group alive, I think we need to do this.

(Also, I want to see what happens when we combine Chris and Dominion. :)

This would require those of us who have games to be willing to commit to bring them.

I would personally be all for this and it would certainly get me to show up a lot more often.  A change in venue would also not be terrible.  I can offer up my place (on St Marks between 1st and 2nd Ave) if it is convenient for people.  Seating may be an issue, but I can figure that out.  Even without a venue change moving away from Fist only would be a good draw for me at least.

I'd be up for it. I don't board game often enough, and I'm for obvious reasons
less enthused about Fist than I used to be.

Oh, and also it is impossible to recruit new players for Fist. Board games
don't involve as significant a commitment.

Jan, how big is your place?

I hate to say it, but I'd certainly be more likely to show up (especially as a last-minute decision) if I didn't have to think about making a deck ahead of time... and I love board games.

Still not the easiest thing for me to do right now, but it'd be easier.

Nore sure about the venue shift, since I need to be closer to Penn Station,,, just my preference.

There are other alternatives, though.

Count me in for trying out new games.

I still work in Soho, so proximity to there is appreciated. My new apartment can host a small gathering, but it's a bit of a trek into Queens.

My place isn't huge, but it should certainly be comfortable for up to eight people or so.  I would need to work out seating and determine best table space options, but that can be done with minimal energy.  The plus side is that my bathroom and facilities will be nicer and there is much more in the way of food options (many at low cost).  The downside is I am 20 blocks further downtown and less potential exposure to new players (although I suspect the chance of this is no minimal as to be negligible).  Either way I am fine with it as I work very close to the Cafe.

For board games, (with a little fist) recruiting new players isn't that hard,
particularly with all the SF clubbers (many of which some of us know) hanging
out nearby. So I think I favor staying at C28 for now.

*nod* Our new place could also host very plausibly (until we move in, it's got
like 4 rooms people could play in, so once we put in a few more tables and
chairs, it could comfortably hold like 20 or so actively playing; even once
we're moved in there will be enough space for at least 3 games going on
simultaneously between the atrium, the living room, and the library
). But while it's connected well (8 minute walk to the R, 5 to the 7, 10 to
the Woosdide LIRR), Queens can be a stretch.

So far, the response has been positive, but I’d like to hear from Chris and Peter.

The discussion of a change of venue is separate from this one; we can do either one without the other.

I will accept whatever the majority decides.  I'm generally a CCG player, like Shadowfist.  But, I do like board games like Settlers of Catan and Axis and Allies.  Depending on the location, it could be a boon or bust to me, since I live in Brooklyn.

Have a good weekend.

Peter
