Hi everyone,

It’s been a very long time and I hope everyone has been keeping well. I wanted to see if anyone was interested in some Shadowfist. I was thinking middle/end of next month. I recently moved, so could offer up space to play there (Downing St) or we could meet at any of the old spots. Anyway, if anyone is interested, get in touch and we can coordinate an exact time and place.

I was just looking at my cards yesterday,  and thinking about it.

I live in Central NJ now,  but come into the city 2-3 days a month.

My goodness, this game has the longest tail in history…

Oddly enough, I *also* had occasion to dig out a small set of playable decks the other day. I could do an afternoon or evening of nostalgic ‘Fist some time. :)

Since I now live in Charlotte, NC, I am unlikely to make it up to NYC for this, but it makes me very happy that it’s happening. Have fun, y'all!

Not to replace a potential NYC gathering, but... I have a large play space and can host 20+ players (I have tables/chairs, etc.) so we could organize some Saturday afternoon gathering at some point :)

Great to see people chime in.  Given some people would be commuting in, does a weekend make more sense?  As I said, I'd be happy to host and there should be plenty of chairs and table space.  I could make sure we have some snacks and drinks on hand as well.  I'm happy to do whatever works best for the most people.

Might be able to hop in, depending on the where and when.  I work in NYC so that is easiest for on a weeknight.
Those old decks must be SOMEWHERE........

I think the main question is if we do weekend or weekday.  Maybe we keep a tally and then pick a day?:

Weekend
Darren

Weekday
Bruce

Either
Jan

It would be great if we can get some old regulars (CCed for an extra nudge) involved too.

I might possibly be interested, but all my cards are in deep storage. I'd need to borrow a deck (which contains no post empire of evil cards) in order to play.

Don't schedule for me, but I might show up. (Though, due to the plague times, I don't have many ongoing social commitments.)

No post-EoE for a reason, or just because of familiarity with the sets up until that point?
(How do we feel about people using post-EoE stuff in general?)

I'm interested, I think a weeknight might be better, but it depends on the weeknight, and I'd need to plan it at least a week in advance.

Seems like there are more weekend requiring folks and people could use some advance notice.  How does Sunday the 18th sound for everyone?  We could gather somewhere in Manhattan, which seems reasonably central, around 11:00 or so and play until people feel like leaving.

Were I setting policy, and I'm not, I'd say:

Test day of. Even if you're testing negative, if you've got cold-like symptoms, don't come.

If meeting in somebody's house, masks aren't needed inside. (This is what I do.) If anyone requests masks, everyone masks.
If meeting in a public space, masks all the time. Eating inside strongly discouraged.

It's too bad fist is such a terrible outdoors game.

I'd say hold off a bit if you want more people Having a mask/test (nypl gives out two free tests per person per visit) policy and a bit more lead time would give people more of a chance to get their ducks in a row.

I got a positive general response from a friend I was thinking of inviting, but since I forgot how soon it was it's too close to invite them now, likely, and I think this weekend is too busy for me.

I'm all for an abundance of caution, all things considered.  Masks could also make Jedi Mind Tricks harder/easier, I suppose. ;)

So it seems this isn’t happening due to lack of interest.  I’m done trying to put something together, but if anyone else wants to take a crack at it, you can likely count me in assuming I’m in town when it happens.

So, I've gotten an email from Earl Miles; apparently, while the -rights-
holders have vanished into the swamp and basically done nothing, the
existing fan communities have come out with one set and are set to come
out with another.

Is anyone interested in getting new physical cards (of either or both
sets)? I have -no- idea of the quality (or lack of same) of such cards,
but I admit the idea is intriguing, particularly if there was interest
in getting together a few times to play with such new toys.

I believe one can find one of the new sets, A Better Tomorrow (from
2023) online; I'm not sure about the newer set, Rainforest Rumble.

I'm probably asking for disappointment, but would anyone be up for a Shadowfist get together towards the end of this month?  I'm open to day/time as well as location.  I'm happy to offer up my space, which has tables and chairs for eight, but am fine with anything.  Is anyone interested and if so, what times/days would work best for the most folks?

If it matters, I don't have any cards after the game went to a fixed rarity format (including the fan cards), but don't care if you do play with those cards.  I'm also fine doing draft, but I only have one box of Six Guns, so other people would need to bring product to make that work.

Hope everyone has been well.

I'm not averse, depending on timing. Nothing too expensive (I'm between
jobs; anyone know someone hiring a programmer, ideally someone who cares
more about harder to learn skills than languages, since I've done perl
for most of my career but can become productive in other languages
really fast and am currently learning scala), but I still have most of
my collection, including a fair number of draftable boxes (although not
Chris's foundation collection, which would be really helpful for being
able to do draft).

I would be open to getting together at some point at the end of this month.
The 3 dates that I definitely cannot do are N May 21, 22, & 23 because of the Shavuot holiday.
I also need evenings.
I will be looking forward to this if we can put it together.

Nothing too expensive (I'm between jobs; anyone know someone hiring a programmer, ideally someone who cares more about harder to learn skills than languages, since I've done perl for most of my career but can become productive in other languages really fast and am currently learning scala), but I still have most of my collection, including a fair number of draftable boxes (although not Chris's foundation collection, which would be really helpful for being able to do draft).

I’d probably be interested. I’m not available the very last weekend of the month, and I’d need to borrow a deck

So, I think we have enough interest that it can happen.

I decided to cut to the chase and make a poll as to date. (I didn't include weeknights as an option. I can re-do if there's enough people who want that, but it's not the vibe I got.

Starting time was an arbitrary choice, not a mandate. The last weekend of the month is going to be lacking both me and Josh, but if everybody else wants then, we can cope.

I'll also offer up my place as a possible location:

Upsides:
- Nice easy trip (for me :) and it's a reasonable walk from the Forest Hills stop on the MERF. (~20 minute ride from midtown on the EF) Also on the LIRR
- Lots of space, and tables and chairs for at least 8
- Cat

Downsides:
- Still out in Queens. IIRC Jan was more centrally located
- Cat (she's quite low allergen, but allergies are still a thing)
- The elevator situation is complicated the weekend of the 16th
- No shadowfist cards on premises
- Won't work for the last weekend of the month

Ha! I'm totally in.  I'll fill in the poll.

After my kids and I did a board game night at a cafe last month one of them asked me "Hey, didn't you like play a card game a lot or like do work on one?"

An hour of stories later and I am now committed to teaching them this game, so I've already dug out my cards. :)

My place is also available. No cat, and more messy than I'd like, but
does have quite a bit of space (including a second room if we want to
separate games) and more than enough folding chairs. (still in queens,
but maybe 15 minutes closer to Manhattan than Julian's).

It's also only available when I am, so on the current poll, the 24th or
25th (or next weekend, but the 24th is looking to be where critical mass
is).

I'm down for playing. As for a space, a friend of mine owns a game cafe in brooklyn, Squarrel Cafe. it's on Atlantic Ave., just off Flatbush & 4th Ave, a half block from the Barkley Center, so REAL convenient by subway. Parking is a little trickier, but I've always found a space on the sidestreets within 10 minutes on sundays We can reserve tables, price is pretty reasonable ($8/person for 3 hours or $15/person for the whole day) and they have tables open for the 24th. Whadda ya think?

I’m completely down to play anywhere.  For what it is worth, I’m on Downing St at Bedford.  That should be reasonably central as I’m blocks from both the 1 and West 4th St station and a short walk from the Path.  But I am on the third floor of a walk up, do have a dog and potentially an almost two year old in the house as well.  I have an expandable dinning table that can sit 12, so two game should have plenty of room.  If we have more than eight people though one group would need to use the rather large coffee table.  On the upside, I can provide seltzer/soda or beer/booze and snacks.  Should people want something more substantial there are many close options.

Let’s find the day that works for the most people, determine where everyone is coming from, and then decide on the optimal location.  In the interest of ease and time, why don’t we keep this to constructed play?

Just catching up to this thread. Been a tough month for me and mine (a funeral, a massive knee inflammation…neither mine). I’m exhausted and on the hook for several games for DexLite. So anything til June is likely a pass for me.

Ok, the votes we have indicate that the 24th is the winner. Early afternoon strikes me as the best time, but we can consider counterarguments.

Now, as to location: I think Jan's place looks like the most central location, an easy subway ride away from most places, and also near the PATH, so I nominate it. Are there any objections?

Oh yeah. One other thing:

Can everybody Covid test beforehand?

Thank you

Probably not. The Fist players there are likely doing other things. (Bruce, Josh, and I are all variously running non-trivial amounts of events)

We used to, back in the day.  Without planning more ahead, it would, as Julian inplied, be rough.

Hi all!

Unfortunately,  events have conspired to make this impossible for me:

1. I love in Central NJ now
2. I got laid off in Feb 2025, and have been unemployed for 15 months (eek!)
3. I no longer have any Shadowfist cards

Also,  I'm really focused on my game auction/ sale this Saturday... you're all more than welcome!

Good to ḥear from everyone!

I used to go there a lot for RPGs, so would be fine doing anything there. What are folks up to this year at the Con?

And yes happy to covid test.
Also flu.

Are we still worried about Monkey Pox?  I have to say, I prefer the animal named pathogens over the others.  Give me a good Bird Flu or Bovine Tuberculosis any day over a Hantavirus...

I'll just test for covid; flu vaccines mostly work (and anyway, we got a giant pile of tests when agencies needed places to send them and haven't yet gotten through the lot).

Hantavirus is apparently not an issue; human/human transmission hasn't been documented, I think?  Fortunately.

... And, that was a fast recovery (although not full, yet); my laptop crashed hard Monday morning, so I've been using my macbook (as a backup, but I hate apple mail) and phones/tablets to monitor this conversation; didn't get my new laptop functional until now.

And now...i have a day to prep for a Thursday interview (with a company that uses a language I'm rusty in to say the least)?  FUN.

Note: subject line change.

Lisa (my wife) and I are running a longcon of our (so far unpublished) Good Society hack; haven't seen the schedule but probably over all of Friday.    And I'm running Trickerion, a heavy euro about stage magic, in a 6 hour slot (when I ran it for private play it took 5 hours to teach and play, so this isn't all that cautious; I'll show up early to set it up, too).  It'll be my 4th time playing it and 2nd time with a chance of getting past the 3rd turn, so I'm not feeling guilty about playing.

I don't know for sure what Julian and Bruce are running, but history shows that Julian tends to run various board games (and quite likely Dominion), while Bruce has been known to run game shows.

I can make it on any weekend so no issue any day.  It would be best for me if the place is near path but I guess I can also take subway if needed.  As long as the location is early accessible to public transportation, I'm fine.
