The teachers union, theNAACP and others are going to court over the city's plans to close a record-breaking number of struggling schools this year.
Union officials plan to file the suit Wednesday inManhattan Supreme Court to block the closing of 22 of the 26 public schools the city had intended to close starting next fall.
The lawsuit also takes issue with the city's plans for 18 charter schools to sharing space in public school buildings.
In the past two years, union lawsuits have successfully quashed the city's plans to close struggling schools, including 15 schools that are part of Wednesday's lawsuit.
A judge determined last year that New York had not properly followed regulations in the state's mayoral control law requring the city to review the impact of closing the schools on surrounding communities.
