I was trying to setup a LINUX VM on Windows last weekend (for the
upcoming GO class). So far I ran into install issues with both Ubuntu
and SUSE with both the Windows 7 version of Virtual PC and MS Virtual
PC 2007 on Vista. I haven't tried the VMWare Player yet, but will do
so later this week.

I was wondering what combinations of quest LINUX OS and VM hosting
software have worked for others.

VMware Player will work fine, I use it quite frequently to install Linux distros on my Win 7 machine. I actually use VirtualBox more lately, give either one a try and you will be impressed.

Thy auto-recognize most Linux distros from the .iso file and supply custom VM settings.

Do these work on pcs older than 5 or 6 years? That is when CPUs
started supporting virtualization, I think the older ones are Pentium
4s.
