Smart phones & grid computing power?

Android and other smart phones have a fair amount of computing
power.

Let's go back a few years, to SETI project (Search for Extra
Terretrial Intelligence). One could opt in by downloading a client
bit of software, allowing SETI to use some of those spare CPU cycles.

Could Android phones (and other smart phones) be set up to have an app
for specific, certified use of all that extra computing power? Genome
sequencing, drug efficacy and biochem analysis, and so many more;
perhaps one app for each use? or a clearing house app, with a trusted
source?

Think about possible medical uses of all that power, and other
potential for good. Ideas? Opinions?

Obviously the app would have to check available battery power, and not
continue processing if charge level was below
a certain point, perhaps user selectable (60%, 50, 40, 30)
