Hey all, and thanks Kai for the t-shirt design it looks great! I
suggest all who are going to get one!

Regarding a project in time for IO, Yes, if there's enough interest we
can tackle one. Just note that like last year, there will be an Google
IO scheduler app with some more features from what I hear. Here's the
one from last year: http://code.google.com/p/googleio2009 There will
also be a scavenger hunt game (using QR bar codes).

Yes ideally we would have an app engine component and with Robert's
lead (nudge ;-) ) it would be in Python and I could lead the
Android/Java client part. Perhaps have a coding session at the next
meetup which as a reminder is in 2 weeks. Feel free to discuss a
possible ideas that is preferably useful to or related to Google IO
and simple enough to complete in time.

The idea I proposed at the last meeting, as a general project idea,
not for Google IO, for those who weren't at the last meeting, was to
create an app engine app (and possible marketplace app) that would
aggregate stats for apps from the Android market, providing feeds
(buzz, twitter etc) for developers to track their apps.

I'd like to participate on the App Engine portion. I know Python, at
an intermediate level, and have worked with App Engine, in the past,
on a small, personal project.

I'm still trying to think of some ideas and hope to have a few for the
meetup.

I can be part of the team if you need somebody helping the Google App
python part, or I can try to do Android/client as well since I just
got my Motorola Droid from Google and want to find some simple
projects to practice!

Hey Horace, I got my Droid yesterday, too. How do you activate it? The
Google instructions said to refer to a seperate included "leaflet",
which I didn't have. Out the box, I was able to make calls, which come
from some 925-#, but no data connection unless I jump on wifi. Network
shows 'unknown. O.o

Ditto

OK! After sent you the email, I double check the attached paper from Google, it said this comes with 30-day free voice/data, and can be used under WiFi!!! Did you click at "Activate" button on power-on screen to go thru the process ?

Kai,

Nice to know you got one too! I havn't activate my Droid yet, since currently I only have AT&T and T-Mobile accounts not the Verizon. I am talking to my company accounting to see if company can take care the Verizon phone bill then I can activate it under company name, otherwise, I just need to switch one of my account to Verizon.

I am also thinking about using it under WiFi w/o Verizon account for testing, don't know if it is doable or not?

Sorry for not much help for your problem!

Horace

Nope, my first power-on took me directly to the home screen. No activation prompts. I'll try to figure it out

Hey guys, you don't have to activate it to use it with just wifi,
press each corner of the screen starting at the top left counter
clockwise to bypass activiation.

We'll have details re: project up soon - make sure to RSVP for
NYC-GTUG meeting a week from tonight!

You should see the screen said "Touch me to begin...." when first time turn on the Droid, after touch the screen you will see a "Activate" button on the bottom right-hand side. Once you click at "Activate" it will call Verizon to automaticlly enable the phone. No need to talk to anybody or give any of your information. Once phone is ready, just enter your Google account info and it is ready to use!
