All;

I am dying to do some android development and wanted to know if any of
you are interested in this as well and we can get together and do an
app or two on android over this summer. Primary purpose would be to
learn android development.

Thanks
ARNJ

Hey all, as you know I also lead the NYC Java Meetup, and we have a weekly Thursday Java mobile study group meeting (we're meeting tonight) and we have several apps on the market: http://skylight1.googlecode.com

It's not hosted under NYC GTUG only because it started beforehand, but there's no reason there shouldn't be cross pollination across all the groups, including the Android Meetup whose monthly meetup meets next Wednesday.

If you'd like to join a new project underway stop by tonight at NYPC (New Yorker Hotel - 34th and 8th room 550 no RSVP necessary but limited space) as the study group is just starting an app to compete in the http://www.streetappschallenge.com where everyone who participates will share in the prize.

Manik, ARNJ, Kai and anyone interested in Android development - w
we're having a special last minute pre-Google IO Joint Meetup with the
NYC Java Meetup this Thursday May 13, 6pm:

Featured Speaker: (remotely from CA) Stephen Ng (and Noel Yap)

Topic: Android Development and Testing: an unauthorized guide to some
unorthodox techniques.

The primary development language for Android is Java, which means you
get to write mobile apps in a familiar language with great IDE
support. But because Android runs on a custom (Dalvik) VM, writing
tests that run quickly and locally can be a challenge. This talk will
focus on three experimental techniques for unit and integration
testing:
- Using PowerMock to enable unit testing on the Java VM
- Using Roboguice to facilitate dependency injection
- Using a sqlite3 wrapper to enable sql testing

Stephen Ng is a Software Engineer in Test at Google, where his day job
has nothing to do with Android development. He is the author of a
popular open source Android application, GeoBeagle, which is coded
using the techniques described. He is a graduate of M.I.T.

We'll also feature and put NYC Java Meetup's Java Mobile Study Group
on the spotlight (which meets every Thursday), and review all of their
Android projects as well review the latest Android news and the
imminent "froyo" release ;)

Door Prizes! (books)
(refreshments is there's a sponsor, yes you get to promote your
company! contact organizers asap)

We will adjourn afterwards for drinks / food at a local pub/
restaurant.

PLEASE NOTE: this is special joint meeting with the NYC Java Meetup -
we're accepting RSVPs at both lists (PLEASE DON'T RSVP TWICE!)

This is great! I'll definitely be there. Also, to those I spoke with and promised t-shirts -- I'll have them with me. And if you can't make it on Thursday, I'll have them with me at IO; just shoot me your contact info and/or add me on GTalk -- kmallea at gmail dot com.
