Hi all,

Looking through the traffic speed data it seems only one direction of data is available for travel over the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges - going FROM Brooklyn TO Manhattan on both cases. This is confirmed by looking closely at the DOT real-time map as well - http://nyctmc.org/.

I was hoping to just gain some clarity as to why? Are the sensors on those stretches unavailable at the moment? Is the data only intermittently available throughout the day? It just seemed odd that data would be available over two bridges, but only in one direction.

Any help appreciated,

Dan Robinson

Dear Dan,

We only have detectors in one direction right now. They were paid for with funding from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation as part of their rebuilding work.

According to our Traffic Management Center staff we are looking to identify funding to install detectors in the other direction on both bridges. We do not have a timeframe for that at this point.

Best,

Dani
