Next Monday I'll be giving a little talk at the 4th Workshop on Dynamic Languages and Applications (DYLA 2010).  The "position paper" for that is here.

I give horrible talks. So bad, that I need to explain what they were about (including jokes) afterwards.  So if there is interest and someone can arrange a meetup before Saturday when I leave, I'd love to give it. I can take harsh criticism and promise even learn from it. What's it that John Lennon says, "I get by with a little help from my friends. I can try with a little help from my friends."

Second and equally important, that the first day of Ruby Kaigi 201 is a discussion on adding a frame object (e.g. rb-threadframe)  to Ruby 1.9, and possibly other run-time issues.

If you have things that should be discussed with respect to the Ruby runtime, lemme know and I'll see how I can fit that in.  Unfortunately since I've never been to one of these things, I have no idea what I can reasonably expect. If there's someone out there with a clue... same Lenon song.

Many thanks.

I love horrible talks, it means there was more to say than just
soundbites :)

but this talk looks is really good

I'm all for a meetup, even if it's just meeting with a small group to
do
a dry run at a restaurant or something.

friday night, or saturday afternoon, is good for me,
is that a good time to gather.

Saturday I leave for Spain. So let's make it Friday night. I'll buy a round of Jello for the whole audience! (That's a line I got from Penn and Teller's How to Play with Your Food
http://www.amazon.com/Penn-Tellers-Play-Your-Food/dp/0679743111/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277214135&sr=1-1 top of page 84)

Love Penn & Teller and Jello. Sounds like good material. Wish I could make Friday.

I find your paper very interesting <http://bergel.eu/download/Dyla2010/dyla10_submission_1.pdf>,
and well structured,

I've definitely been in the uninterested in the current debuggers camp, and am very curious about the topics you raise.

In particular the push for high-level debuggers to be capable of low-level debugging. I've always wanted to look all the way down into the code, very cool subject matter.

look forward to Friday night,

Way to take initiative folks. I've never fux't with writing debuggers much myself, but I have been missing some of the nice things offered by C# + Visual Studio since I switched over to dynamic languages fulltime.

Unfortunately I am out of town this week in Montreal and Denver. I get back June 30th, so maybe after 4th of July weekend we can start organizing another meetup.

Cheers,
Charlie
