Hi Everyone,
We are having an event today with Bronx Borough President, Vanessa Gibson who will sit on the panel. It would be great if you can post and share within your local networks for this very important topic. We'd love to have a diverse audience of ideas to discuss the importance of healthy soils and the necessity of composting locally to green our borough more!!
Panelists Include
Vanessa Gibson- Bronx Borough President
Victor Davila- Bronx Based Community Organizer
Raymond Figueroa Reyes- President, New York City Community Garden Coalition & Co-Founder of Brook Park Community Garden
Henry Obispo- Founder of ReBORN FARMS, Born Juice & President of United Restaurant Cooperative
Bronx Council Member, Sanitation Committee
Dior St. Hillaire- Moderator and Bronx SWAB Chair
Special Guest: Paul Mankiewicz Biologist/Plant Scientist & Executive Director of The Gaia Institute
This event is part of Bronx Borough President Gibson’s Bronx Week and a collaboration with Bronx SWAB (Solid Waste Advisory Board) where we will screen the documentary, “Kiss The Ground” along with a panel discussion to follow that includes our BP Vanessa Gibson.
We will discuss the following topics:
- Soil as an Environmental Justice concern
- Why composting and growing food locally matters
- What is truly needed to become a zero waste city
- The connection between waste and mental health
- The impact of soil on maternal health
- and much more....
Local community gardens and park groups use some of the soil sustaining practices described in this film.
It's OUR BRONX and we need all voices to make it work for us and shape these initiatives in our images and lived experiences. Bring your questions, bring your ideas, and bring your creativity as we continue building The Bronx SWAB together.
Kiss the Ground reveals that, by regenerating the world’s soils, we can completely and rapidly stabilize Earth’s climate, restore lost ecosystems and create abundant food supplies. The film artfully illustrates how, by drawing down atmospheric carbon, soil is the missing piece of the climate puzzle.
