Hi Community Composters,

Happy holidays! Reaching out to share that the application to Earth Matter's Compost & Farm Apprenticeship Program (free, funded by GreenThumb) is live. This is open to anyone who is a member of a GreenThumb community garden. See below. Thanks for taking a look. Please share this with anyone in your networks who may be interested!

Compost and Farm Apprenticeship Program
NYC Parks GreenThumb trainings are reserved for members of GreenThumb community gardens. All trainings are free of cost.

This 11-week training with Earth Matter NY gives GreenThumb gardeners hands-on experience in small-scale urban farming with a focus on composting. Participants learn to make "Gold Standard” compost, explore various composting systems, and apply best practices to improve soil and plant health. Sessions cover compost fundamentals, soil testing, tool maintenance, seedling care, creative applications like harvesting indigo for dye experiments, microscope observations of compost samples and data collection.

Schedule: 11 full-day Friday sessions from March 6 to May 15, 2026
Location: Soil Start Farm, located on Governors Island

Learn more and apply here by Sunday, February 1, at 11:59 p.m.

Kind regards,

Jessica
