I’m working with Anna at the Save Our Compost Coalition to plan a celebratory event on Sunday, June 27 from 1-5pm at Queensbridge Park in Long Island City, Queens.
This was going to be different event with a more serious tone on the 30th, but with the recent 1 year extension on Big Reuse’s site and LES Ecology Center getting a guarantee that they can return to the East River Park after ESCR construction, this is now a celebratory event and we have moved the date to Sunday 6/27.
It is only 1.5 weeks away so we are scrambling to get everything together. I want to make sure everyone on this listserve gets the invitation, and I want to invite you to participate. This event will be as big or small as we make it. We have a few live acts scheduled and a couple family friendly activities including soil painting and a worm petting zoo. There are opportunities to help, we are looking for more performers. It’s a carnival theme! If you have special talents or want to work with your compost or garden group to develop skit or offer an activity, please get in touch. I would love to talk to y’all and get you into the roster. Some specific tasks we could use help with include set-up and break down, sidewalk chalk artist, sorting station liaisons and BBQ/food prep. Some ideas for activities to lead include worm race, seedball making and facepainting.
Here is an early flier. I hope to confirm more musical performances and activities by this weekend to update the flier.
