If you get a connection to server timed out error for a site, first try reaching it from another device. For example, if you cannot access a site from your computer, try loading it from your mobile device. Doing that helps you determine whether the issue occurs only on your end.

If you are at home and there are interruptions in your internet connection, you may experience an err_connection_timed_out in Chrome. Address this disturbance by restarting your router device. To do that, press the power button and allow it some time to cool off. Then turn it on again and give it time to connect to the Internet again.

Web browsers store the cache of your browsing data, saved logins, and cookies. Thanks to it, you access pages you frequently visit faster. As beneficial as it is, it also holds some drawbacks, especially if the stored cache is out of date. An expired cache can prevent you from reaching a site serving the timed-out error.

In Google Chrome, click the three dots menu > More Tools > Extensions to see the list of installed extensions. By disabling them, you can check if any are causing the error and resolve the issue.

Antivirus and Firewalls provide a powerful defense against cyber threats, various types of malware, and unauthorized access attempts. However, if they are too strict, they may block your access even to legitimate websites, causing a timeout.

To test whether your Firewall or Antivirus blocks the site you intend to access, try temporarily disabling them. After these are off, try relaunching the site and see if that solves the err_connection_timed_out.

If the antivirus or firewall software causes the problem, you can add the website to a whitelist. This way, the software will not filter your access to that site. Alternatively, contact its support or look for another program.

A DNS cache is a temporary database stored on your computer that keeps recently accessed DNS information. Generally, a DNS cache is beneficial for your smooth browser experience as it expedites DNS resolution.

However, if the DNS information in the cache is incorrect or outdated, it can cause errors like the err_timed_out error. This is because your computer is using the wrong DNS information to try and connect to the website, resulting in a connection timeout.

The ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT error occurs when your computer fails to connect to a website properly. Often this is due to an outdated or conflicting IP address. By releasing and renewing the IP address, you can obtain a new and unique IP address.

The hosts file system is a text file that maps domain names to IP addresses. It allows manual DNS translations, and you can edit it to preview websites. To avoid conflicts, timeouts or DNS probe errors, examine your hosts file contents.

Err_connection_timed_out is a common WordPress error indicating that the server failed to load a resource. This problem can result from various causes like plugin or theme conflicts, version incompatibilities, or misconfigurations. All these factors cause a WordPress site to use extra server resources and take longer to load.

A faulty plugin can cause an err_connection_timed_out error in WordPress by consuming excessive server resources. Regularly updating WordPress plugins can also prevent this issue from occurring.

Enabling WordPress debug mode can help pinpoint a specific component causing an err_connection_timed_out error. It provides detailed error messages and logs that can identify the root cause of the problem.

Firefox is incredibly slow to start on my system, but *only* when I have an active internet connection. See the difference in times from running time firefox and then closing the window once it pops up (with a MET-X; I'm running spectrwm, so the delay is pretty neglible).

But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.

Removed my 3 plugins, deleted my existing profile, downgraded/upgraded firefox. Even crashidori err midori starts in range of 0.5 - 0.8 seconds, will be glad if anyone could point me any tweak that will solve this annoying delay.

Thank you for the solution 01. It was driving me crazy. I don't think either the FF devs or Arch Linux devs are aware of this issue and it's pretty serious, so I'm going to add it to the Arch wiki and mozilla's forum.

Testing:
01. I started with a brand new windows user. I logged onto the existing Google Workspace Gmail. I did screenshots periodically to document the timeline.
02. Gmail timeout issue appeared after about 60 minutes. (prior Sophos Community noted "Trouble with google based websites using Firefox" issue so I worked that aspect. Once my Google Workspace Gmail started timing out, I worked other Google property websites.) I opened a new tap and tried Gmail (did not load). I opened a new tap and did YouTube (it worked normally). I opened another new tab and tired Google search (it worked normally).
03. SpeedTest.net opened and ran without issue and Pocket.com worked without issue.
04. Sophos Endpoint Agent - I signed in as Admin.
05. From Sophos Endpoint Agent Admin screen ... I disabled different aspects / pieces and after each I would force Gmail to retry. I did this working through "off" but one cannot turn aspect / piece "on" after "off". Hence, I could not work through items individually. I got to half the aspects turned off and still "No Joy". (I screwed up and no screenshot of half items.)
06. After half aspects / pieces "off" and not able to re-enable, I just cancelled / off to all aspects / pieces except Deep Learning.
07. retry for Gmail and the traffic resumed working / flowing.
08. Sophos Endpoint Agent aspect(s) is/are the issue because when all but Deep Learning aspect / piece toggled "Off" and gmail resumed updates / working. However, I am unsure which aspect / piece is the issue.
09. Sophos Endpoint Agent - I signed out as Admin to re-set / re-enable all the aspects / pieces.
10. Gmail running in the originally open Mozilla Firefox tab continued working normally with aspects / pieces enabled EXCEPT Application Control and Data Loss Prevention (did not re-enable when I signed out as Admin).
12. After Windows Firewall, Ransomwear Detection, Safe Browsing, Network Threat Protection, Application Control, and Data Loss Prevention aspects / pieces "off" Gmail resumed working / flowing.

We have this exact same issue, and we have found others with this issue who have been working with Sophos for months with no resolution. Some have stated they have found a workaround by disabling "Network Threat Protection", but that is not a solution. We have verified that Sophos is definitely the cause, because uninstalling Sophos fixes the problem. Hopefully a real solution is available soon.

Disabling the "Network Threat Protection" on the effected computer resets the "something" because I can immediately restart the "Network Threat Protection" and the user will function for 10 to 120 minutes. (Aside, prior to the loss of email flow / app communication ... the company logo may stop displaying and/or user image may stop displaying. The Google Chat and Meetings may or may not work. I made screenshots periodically to capture these issues.)

From the Cloud console ... I tried disabling Protect network traffic item "Prevent malicious network traffic with packet inspection (IPS)". NO JOY. I tried disabling Protect network traffic item "Detect malicious connections to command and control servers". NO JOY. Then I tried disabling whole category "Protect network traffic" section. NO JOY.

Can you reproduce it with the Developer Tools of the browser open on the Network tab. Maybe saving all the events as a HAR file could be useful for Sophos along with the C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Sophos Network Threat Protection\Logs\sophosnetfilter.log at the same time.

Have just installed Intercept X. Now I have same issue.

Was using on-premises Endpoint before, but changed because pestered by reseller about end-of-life etc. I am a sole end user, not a sysadmin.

On starting Firefox, all google domains (google.com, google.co.uk, news.google.com etc) are initially accessible. But after about 5 minutes, they all fail. Links on the previously opened search pages also fail.

Restarting Firefox restores access. But then it fails again after about 5 minutes.

No problems in Edge or Chrome.

Surprised to read above that some users have had the issue for months. Do Sophos just not care?

If you are connected by Ethernet cable look for the block "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection" and check the Default Gateway IP that one should be the IP you need to connect to access the router configuration.

Try resetting the browsers, would not suggest changing any settings in say firefox. Firefox on Menu Bar under Help, Troubleshoot information upper right corner, Reset Firefox. In IE in Control panel under Internet Options on the Advanced Tab.
