You can find a full description on their history on syntec.net, but we have highlighted some parts. The company had U.S. FDA clearance based on the employees background and expertise in "human sample procurement".[1] Their mission to combine pharmaceutical and biotechnology practices in their research. They owned a significant amount of laboratories which focus on providing clinical trials and biotechnologies through medical testing and procedures.[2]
The company claims that they follow state and federal licensing requirements as well as extra measures with accurate medical reports. However, audiences have seen through audio clips and unofficial medical records that this wasn't quite the case. Nelson Syphus (SYPHUS590), co-founder, seems to be well-liked amongst his fellow colleagues as it seemed he had an "impact. . . among the community". Wesley Nathanial, his partner, was the one who introduced him to the idea of SYNTEC. Together, their partnership has allowed it to become a cornerstone of the company. Syphus accepts that in order to gets thing done, he has to be the "bad guy" sometimes. He shares that he is surrounded by people who share this same mindset so that the company can take on the burden together.[5]
In terms of the serum, it is believed that it is the 'Life's Blood' in those vials. He blames this mysterious physical ailment on Deborah, as she is the one who headed all of these experiments implying that he was an incidental patient.
His relationship with Deborah is strained due to the fact that she believes that he was being selfish in his vision for the company after signing government contracts. His thoughts, at least to Deborah, changed from changing civilization to his own personal gain. He "started to rush projects, cut corners, hire scientists that had no issue ignoring humane protocols..."
Wesley Nathanial (Believed to be WES015), co-founder, is not known quite yet and his intentions are still unknown. It is known that Nathanial is the one who brought up the idea of SYNTEC to Syphus and was able to convince him to continue with their project.[6] Syphus explains that Nathanial tends to be the "peace-maker" and spent most of his time "calming down" Deborah from her wild ideas.
Deborah ("D" and D3B), head clinical scientist at Syntec, over saw most of the trials and experiments. Her co-workers see her as a massive manipulator. According to Syphus, she is rather "touchy" when it came to him. She is closer to Nathanial and often talks to him more about the operations at Syntec. She often tried to undermine Syphus and tried to get Nathanial on her side, admitting that she tried to constantly manipulate him. It was revealed that D3B, the file on the Apple 2, was not an AI- it was Deborah typing everything.
At some point, Deborah wanted barbiturate, paralytic and potassium solutions (which was used for euthanasia and tend to have addictive qualities) for an unknown reason. She said that she does not need more than the 16oz as it will only be needed once. Matt is under the impression that Deborah was going to use this to murder Syphus.
(B27), another employee or an AI. Most of the employees have the Apple II chat logo 'username', but this nickname does not connect to anyone that we know about. This may be an assistant to Syphus, as there is oversight chat logs from D to B27.
The project was used to determine the amount of radiation that can be deterred from the human body using specific chemicals and how that protects against side effects normal to radiation poisoning, including death.
Their first laboratory, or their headquarters, is a CAP Forensic accredited laboratory located in Santa Clarita, CA. It is confirmed that there have been experiments around the complex, but a with emphasis on Hi5 Studio's 'Red Base' and 'Blue Base'.
Besides Santa Clarita, multiple facilities and sister locations were opened domestically across the United States and across the world. In letter to a NSA Government representative, Syphus states that at some point, there were 17 active laboratories and three corporate offices within the United States. It's set to believe that they received additional funding at some point to expand their offices internally, given the descriptions on the 'About Us' Section on the Syntec website.
Experiments/Patients- While the employees have had tensions amongst each other concerning morals and the goals of the company, evidence has suggested that there was an alarmingly large amount of failed experiments and malpractice with the patients. Wesley Nathanial says, "Loved ones and emergency contacts are trying to get in touch with us, the pegasus section is full, we've run out of sedatives for the fifth time this month..."(Source) Besides Wesley, D has concern with how they are treating their patients- but they continue to run the experiments for awhile. D is heard saying that (she) stopped approving them.
Government- In a letter sent to a Government representative, Nelson Syphus states that there were concerns about funding issues and where money was being sent. Syphus states that the money was put into expanding the company locations from 4 to 17 laboratories and added three corporate offices. He pleads to the NSA for a possible extension on their deadline as Project Pegasus is in the beginning stages of testing and they would be able to give trial results of their success. Syphus did not have a conversation with Wesley before this, and there is a conversation in the apple 2 chat logs.
The website domain was originally created on April 15th, 1998.While not discussed in the series yet, fans have found that if you click the middle of the logo on the home page, it will direct you to another "secret" area. In the next episode (to be released on Saturday April 3rd) it appears as though Matt and the team make it into this area.
