I was meandering down the highway, on Route 370, heading east into
Baldwinsville, today. As I drove under the Route 690 overpass, around
6:35 p.m., I noticed an Onondaga County deputy sheriff heading down
the off ramp towards Route 370. I paid him no mind, as I was moving
along at the legal speed limit, which is 50 miles per hour along that
stretch of roadway. As I continued on my way into Baldwinsville, this
same sheriff came buzzing around me like he was heading to the scene
of a bank robbery. But he had no lights, or sirens, or any other
indicator that there was an emergency going on. Then when I got to the
intersection of Route 370, and Route 48, a few moments later, which is
the center of the village, I noticed that sheriff sitting at the stop
light, not running through it. I continued on to a local fast food
joint. Then I found out what the big hurry he was in was all about. It
was his dinnertime apparently, just like mine, and he must have been
really hungry to be driving as fast as he was to get that food into
his belly. I just looked down at him like I would have looked at
anyone that had just done something really stupid. I did not have to
say anything.
Some how though, I have a hunch that if I had passed him going that
fast, on my way to a fast food joint, that he would have had some
rather sharp words for me, along with a yellow piece of paper, and a
court appearance date.
I guess that the laws must be different for police officers????????
Sooner, or later, this cop will probably run over someone, while in a
huge hurry to get a burger, fries, and shake, just like that cop that
ran over that kid in Cicero a few months back while driving way too
fast. Then they will blame it on the pedestrian that got in his way!
