ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Dontie Mitchell, an anti-violence advocate who
has worked with teens since his release from prison in 2021, faced a
judge in Albany County on Wednesday.

He's accused of murder in the second degree, criminal possession of
a weapon and two counts of reckless endangerment.

Mitchell is accused in the shooting death of Shieer Leggett back on
August 11, in the city of Cohoes.

Mitchell is also accused of possessing an illegal handgun and
recklessly engaging in conduct that showed a depraved indifference
to human life, according to police.

He pleaded not guilty in court and was remanded to the Albany County
Correctional Facility.

Mitchell is scheduled to appear in court on September 22.
