· DBAs must be self-starters. Their responsibilities are huge, and must
see them that way. If something needs to be done, they must take ownership
· They should also be able to communicate well with other technical persons.
A DBA will need to communicate with system operations, developers, business
owners and each other. Open opinions and discussions are essential for the
Data team to be successful
· Obviously SQL knowledge is essential, but also is the ability to recognize
when they do not know something, and then to go out and find the right
answer through research or discussion with others who are experienced. I
don't expect the DBA to know every single thing about databases, but I do
expect them to be willing to go out and find out what they need to know.
· Organization is necessary especially for the admin side as there are many
things going on within a database. everything must be in order and easily
referenced.
