Subject: CYBERPARK: Derelict vessels

---------------------
Welcome to Cyberpark
---------------------
Greetings,

The Friends of Marine Park - Gerritsen Creek are currently working on an
issue of concern to our shores. Over the last several years we have
discovered hundreds of derelict and abandoned boats littering the Brooklyn
waterfront. Extensive research into this issue indicates that this is a much
larger nationwide problem. Thus far only 2 states are know to have an
abatement program. We are currently working with legislators in both New York
and New Jersey on this item.

Now we need some help. We are calling on all community groups through out the
region to help us identify specific locations and waterbodies that are being
impacted by derelict vessels. We are creating a bi-state map that will aid us
in developing legislative support. If you are anywhere near the water take a
look and let us know if you have any abandoned boats there. Pictures would be
helpful but are not necessary. An accurate location is important as well as
an estimated count of vessels.
Send the info to ecoc...@aol.com or call it into our hotline at 917 761
4316.

Thanks,

Mike Steffens
