Dear friends,
We’ve just learned the draft language that Congress is considering for the budget STILL INCLUDES CLEAN ENERGY!
But the fossil fuel industry is fighting back hard…and the House and the Senate still haven’t cast their votes yet.
We set an ambitious goal of placing 1,000 calls to Congress by April 1st, asking them to keep clean energy a priority in the budget.
If you haven’t yet, can you organize a call-in day to get at least 25 of those calls made from your school and community?
If & when you HAVE already gotten your calls made,
make sure to email me at z...@ssc.org to let me know how many calls you’ve generated, so we can keep an accurate tally and tell the press how awesome all of our movement truly is!!!
Once again, here is what to do (you’ll also find a 1-pager attached, which you can print out):
1. Find your Representative & Senators by entering your zip code at
www.votesmart.org.
2. Go to a crowded spot on campus with 1-2 friends for the afternoon. You should plan on spending 2-3 hours there.
3. Ask people walking by to take one minute to call their Congressperson to let them know that students at your school support the President’s Budget.
4. Have folks call
(866) 544-7573, which connects to the Capital Switchboard.
5. Ask to speak with [insert your Representative’s name]. You will be connected.
6. When someone picks up the phone, tell them:
“Hello,
I’m calling to ask [insert your Representative’s name] to pass a federal budget that reflects the plan President Obama laid out. Specifically, I want to let him/her know that I support the Administration’s effort to jumpstart our clean energy economy and fight global warming.
Please tell [insert you Representative’s name] that I hope she/he votes YES to passing a federal budget that reflects the President’s priorities on energy and climate.”
Thank you for everything you’re doing – bit by bit we are turning the tide!
Peace,
Zo
