Hi all,

This is an awesome DNS server! Very impressive
Just wondering: is there a possibility to add an extra blacklist import combined with shallalist?
There is multiple free host files that I would like to use.
This does not have to be automated, but a new category that imports a txt file in "some" folder would be nice to have.

Thanks,

Jeroen

You can add domains in to system categories up to 100,000 on our GUI. If it's bigger than that you'd need to modify Shallalist by yourself.

Hi Jinhee,

I understand, but I was not planning to add 100.000 domain by hand with copy paste:)
Any guidance on how to import a list or txt file?

Thanks,

Jeroen

Firstly we don't talk about any kind modification on any blacklist other than Jahaslist as it's against their license. Even if you use Shallalist if it's just one time modification and under 100,000 domains you can copy and paste it on 'System > Categories'. So why not? About Jahaslist we don't care about you modifying it or import and export and share it with others. All allowed. But if you want to stick to a free option then go with Shallalist. That's the only one we found being free. Though it also requires some conditions for users but at least we can say it's between Shallalist provider and you.

Hi Jinhee,

I think we are miscommunicating:)
I am not planning to do any kind of modification with commercial/free lists of either jahaslist or Shallalist.
Shallalist is fine with me as it is and works fine

Here is what I am trying to accomplish:
There is many free downloadable HOST files that I would like to use as extra references.
(I know I need to edit those first before those are usable)
So I want to use Shallalist and more. The HOST files I want to import contain country specific (Netherlands) advertising sites that are not in shallalist.
Reading your replies: I think you are telling me to download shallalist=>unpack=>edit=> add my HOST file contents and then import?
As this kind of "breakes" the already perfect automatic download in NX filter, I was hoping there was a more easy method.
Just put the HOST file in some folder and NXfilter would import.would be uptimus prime.

You mention copy paste in System=> categories should also be possible. I have added domains to a manually created category before, that could only be done per *.domain.com, per line.=> tick "filter"
Seems I am missing something or just did not look in the correct option.

That's exactly what I was talking about. You merged another blacklist file into Shallalist and created a new one. I think that's against their license policy. If you use it privately and not talking about it that might be OK. But if you share it and if there's a signature domain which is not existing but they added into their list to identify their list then you will be in trouble. Your choice. But we don't promotion it or help it.

On NxFilter you can add domains into a system category directly on GUI. Not one by one but multiple domains separated by spaces. These domains being kept in config DB so even if you update blacklist it still remains. And in Jahaslist's case you can modify it directly on GUI. Means more than 100,000. We 100,000 limit as it's on config DB but we have a separate DB file for Jahaslist.

Thanks Jinhee,

All clear and to explain: I have not merged any blacklist in Shallalist and created my own. Also no intentions whatsoever to distribute any lists at all.
Again shallalist is fine by itself.

I will test the "multiple domains separated by spaces" as that is what I was looking for. Just did not know that option yet, hence my question.
Perhaps you could consider the possibility to add extra blacklist imports as a feature request.
Some examples of the free lists I am using:

Thanks for all the fast replies,

Jeroen
