hi,
i currently have everything blocked on the default policy, what i want to allow is full functionality of one website.
this one website has an embedded video in it, a youtube video.
I've managed to allow users who use the default policy to view the website, but the embedded video is still getting the nxfilter block page.

I've tried adding the full length embedded video url to whitelist and custom category but keep getting invalid domain.

Any ideas?

Create a test user with a test policy which blocks everything. And when you login as the user try to watch youtube embedded video and then see what's blocked for the user.

results with current config
using the default policy which has all things blocked.
i opened IE and went to the website, in NxFilter logging i can see that the embedded video is blocked with custom category streaming_sites with the url www.youtube.com

all new config
created a new user and a new policy with all things blocked.
webpage loaded correctly but the embedded video received the block page with url www.youtube.com, category movies, reason blocked by category.

Then try to bypass '*.youtube.com' on whitelist.

I think there's some misunderstanding. NxFilter works on domain level. You can't insert URL into whitelist or custom category. You need to use *.youtube.com.

Maybe you need to bypass *.youtu.be as well.

But then all users will have access to everything on youtube. Is there a way to do this without giving them access to youtube?

Just as Carl is referring to, i only want all users to have access to this one embedded video and only have specific users have access to youtube.

In all my policies i have blocked movies and any other category that streaming sites are placed in. I then created a custom list "streaming_sites" to only allow streaming websites that are approved.
Based on the user group i will block (check) or allow (uncheck) the custom category. I do not want all users to have access to youtube.

No we can't just allow one video link on DNS level. The other option is using quota. Add youtube on some custom category and apply 10mins of quota on that category. At least your users can't use youtube all day.
