Rig control via Fldigi is possible on these radios, but the complexity in getting it to work correctly ranges from “moderate” to “high”. Much of the complexity is a result of CAT PTT control only working on these radios if PTT/CTRL is on the side of the radio that is set to digital. That poses a problem if you want to use voice comms on side A, for example, and digital comms on side B at the same time.
If you explicitly tell Flrig to NOT do PTT via CAT, then it will work because it’ll do GPIO PTT via the minDIN-6 connector (the default PTT mode for the Nexus). Likewise, if you install the appropriate XML file in the right place, RigCAT rig control is possible directly from Fldigi. But again, if you want to do voice on 1 side of the radio and digital on the other, you must tell Fldigi to NOT do PTT via CAT. Same with Hamlib.
Also, if you are using any of these rig control methods, you cannot use the 710 program. Only one program can access the radio via the serial port at one time.
I can do a demonstration if there is interest.
