Hi Everyone,

The group has been pretty quiet this year. One member told me she had problems trying to post, and I had some issues posting for awhile too, so if that has held any of the rest of you back, let me know and I'll try to help. You can email me at Jill(at)nwveg.org.

Let's try to get together more than once or twice this year too, maybe with some garden tours again, which is a great way for both hosts and visitors to troubleshoot problems plus get great ideas. I hope to have people over in early June, when the 30' Paul's Himalayan Musk Rose framing my equally huge veggie garden is peaking, while the once purely ornamental sections of my garden revert back to chaos, to the delight of wildlife.

For now, I also have a lot of extra tomato, purple tomatillo, and ground cherry starts to share, plus lots of seeds (primarily a wide assortment of leafy greens.) I would like to find homes for my starts by May 5.  So if anyone is able to host a plant/seed sharing gathering some weeknight or weekend soon, let me know, along with how many people you are able to accommodate. If RSVPs from this group are sparse, we might invite other friends or potentially list it through NW VEG.  Last year when we did that we  ended up with maybe 12 - 14 people.

If anyone else has any ideas for getting together, or questions for online discussion, please share!

I would really love some tomatillo and ground cherry starts as they are my favorite and I wasn't able to have starts this year because I was moving. I can host a gathering, but really have no garden to show off, which might be nice to see.

Thanks Jill for getting the ball rolling, I joined last year, so I haven't had the chance to meet any of you yet and I certainly would like to!

Hi Jill,

Thanks so much for initiating this.  I don’t currently have a lot of energy to help organize, but would like to attend and to help somehow.  As you know, I didn’t grow any starts this year, but would be happy to give homes to a ground cherry and a few tomato plants.  Plus, I have seeds to share.

I’m fairly flexible time-wise.

Thanks again!
Stephanie

I would love to offer my place.  Would Saturday, May 3rd or Sunday, May 4th work for most people?  I was thinking sometime in the afternoon.  I am open to suggestions.  I live in Cedar Mill. My address is 12700 NW Filbert St, Portland.

Hi Anne, Stephanie and Lori – thanks for replying.

Why don’t we plan on Lori’s place this time – it is close to Hwy 26, so easy to get there and very convenient for me too!  If everyone interested can RSVP/reply and let us know if both days, or which if only one works, we can settle the day, and Lori can set whatever time works best for her.

Anne – we’ve done troubleshooting to help people get garden’s started, so some of us would love to come by and see what you’re hoping to do, some other time?

Hi Jill and everyone,
I'd like to attend. I have a number of cherry tomato seed packets to share (2014 & 15), if anyone is interested in these. And, Jill I'd love to get a ground cherry start. Either Saturday or Sunday would work for me.
Thanks for organizing!

Think I could do either day, but have a preference for Sunday.
Thanks!

Hi All,

I would prefer Sunday as well. So if no one has objections lets go for Sunday at 2 pm.  Hopefully, it won't rain but I  do have a covered area if it does.   It will be great to have some opinions on how I can improve my yard and garden area.

Let me know if the time and date work for everyone.

Thanks Lori.  Sunday at 2pm sounds great. Right now it looks like maybe 5-6 of us are interested, so I’d like to consider opening it up to other friends not on this list, or maybe Viva La Vegan Meetup?  Would that by okay with you, Lori? If you’d prefer to keep it smaller, sometimes that’s more fun for those attending.  If so, let me know and I’ll take the majority of my extra plants to one of the potlucks to hand out.

I have 28 unclaimed tomato starts, so everyone let me know which ones to save for you – but Stephanie gets dibs on Hi Carotene and; including:

1 – Aunt Ruby’s German Green

1 – Black Trifele

2 – Purple Calabash

2 – Indigo (Rose?)

2 -  Hi Carotene

4 – Sungold

4 – Golden Treasure

6 - Black Plum

6 – “Orange Delicious” (I bought the seed as Delicious, but it was mislabeled, so no idea what it is, but it is the one people keep asking me for again)

Also let me know if anyone else wants ground cherries or  Purple tomatillos.

Jill, I am fine with opening it up to others.

Hi All,
Thanks Jill for getting us started, and Lori- for offering meeting space.
I am not sure if I can attend, my husband and I are planning a coast
trip, his birthday is 5/5.If it rains, we might consider going the
following weekend.

Jill, if you have ground cherries left over,I would enjoy one.You
should teach us how you save the ground cherry seeds, so we can
replant..I currently have space for 3 more tomato plants.I have seeds
to share.

Hi Jill and the rest of the group,
Sunday @ 2pm works for me....Lori thanks for hosting.
Jill, besides a ground cherries start, if you have any of these left, I'd like to try the black trifele, purple calabash, and black plum---all or any of that assortment.
I'll bring some of my extra seeds to share.

See you all,
Carolyn

I can also make Sunday at 2 and look forward to it. Thank you, Jill, for the offer of coming to look at my space. I might not need much help, but it seems foolish to turn down extra input - maybe we can chat more on Sunday. I would love some ground cherries (do you need two as with tomatillos?) and tomatillos. I will happily take any tomatoes if there are any left over as well. Thanks so much.

Hi Lori,
Could you please do me a favor and take care of the tomato starts Jill left for us until Thursday. I had planned on coming over today to pick them up, but Wendy needs some help with our grand-kids for the next few days while Eric is out of town.
Thanks,
Carolyn
