JOB TITLE:

ENGINEERING RESEARCH ASSISTANT

PHYSIOLOGICAL SENSOR DESIGN FOR EDUCATION RESEARCH PROJECT

JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for an individual to contribute to the technology-based component of the "I,Bio" human biology curriculum project.  You will join a multidisciplinary research team of engineers, educational researchers, and teachers from Chicago's public schools, as we engage in this extraordinary adventure in educational reform  [Northwestern's Centers for Bioengineering Educational Technologies (www.vanth.org), and Learning Technologies in Urban Schools (www.letus.org)].  The described position will focus on developing a unique piece of hardware with which middle school children will take physiological data on their own bodies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualified student is an undergraduate engineer (any year) with a strong interest in education. This individual should be enthusiastic to draw from her or his skills in electrical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering (any of these) to design, refine, build, and test a physiological sensor for use in a novel educational setting.  Relevant skill set includes basic electronics experience and, in general, just plain liking to "make stuff."  The qualified individual is excited to explore this unique application for their engineering abilities as they apply to education.  This position could be work-study or non-work-study.

PAY RATE:
Pay rate increases beyond $8/hr with relevant experience.
