One supercell produced a weak tornado that tracked across areas around 5 miles west of Alison, Texas. The adjacent supercell to the south tracked across the city of Wheeler. Wheeler experienced the core of the storm while the rotation associated with the supercell tracked about 5-6 miles south of the city. The rear flank downdraft of the supercell created a powerful wind gust that was even apparent on radar as it deformed the backside of the storm structure. In addition, a storm chaser documented a periodic funnel clouds with the storm and although it didn't fully condense to the ground, there was periodic dust picked up below at the surface. Isolated damage indicators provided challenges for the survey, however a relatively narrow path of damage mainly consisting of snapped large tree limbs did exits west to southwest of Alison. There was one small out building destroyed as well, but the EF1 tornado rating was based on snapped power poles early in the track. Otherwise, most of the path was EF0 damage. .Wheeler Downburst - 6/25/2026... Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.92 miles Path Width /maximum/: 1800 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 1 Start Date: 06/25/2026 Start Time: 08:00 PM CDT Start Location: 1 NW Wheeler / Wheeler County / TX Start Lat/Lon: 35.452 / -100.2894 End Date: 06/28/2026 End Time: 08:05 PM CDT End Location: 3 SSE Wheeler / Wheeler County / TX End Lat/Lon: 35.404 / -100.2554 Survey Summary: A combination of a storm survey, eyewitness reports, and radar data indicates that damage from a severe storm across western Wheeler was caused by a strong rear-flank downdraft on the backside of a powerful supercell. The path of the most significant damage was approximately one mile wide. The most severe damage occurred in an RV park, where 16 unanchored travel trailers were rolled and destroyed. The south end of the trailer park was downstream from open areas, which likely contributed to higher wind speeds and greater damage in that specific section of the park. One injury was reported, but most residents had either evacuated to a shelter or were not home at the time. An overturned pickup truck at the site was likely pushed over by adjacent rolling trailers. Other damage included snapped power poles, numerous broken large tree limbs, and a few uprooted trees. Several homes and businesses sustained significant roof damage, including metal buildings that were compromised after their overhead doors failed. Most well-constructed or newer structures sustained only minor damage or remained unscathed. The first supercell thunderstorm latched onto a weak frontal boundary after splitting and moved east and then southeast across Beaver County encountering a favorable environment for tornadoes. The storm became extremely dynamic producing multiple tornadoes, large hail and strong damaging winds within the rear flank downdraft. In addition to the main tornado circulation additional satellite tornadoes and several mesoscale ground vortices occurred along the south and southwest flank of the storm and these in the end created more damage than the main tornadic circulations that remained mostly in open grasslands which lacked damage indicators. Additional study of video and damage surveys is being done on what occurred in this outer quadrant of the storm away from the main tornadic circulations. Damage included large tree limbs which were snapped and one uprooted tree all of which were around an old dilapidated homestead. Adjacent power lines were not damaged and this also provided clues to the intensity toward the end of the life-cycle. Radar imagery and video suggests the tornado was potentially stronger earlier in the track while in open grasslands. Toward the end of the life cycle after becoming rain wrapped and weakening, the tornado did encounter some damage indicators. Damage included large tree limbs which were snapped and one uprooted tree all of which were around an old dilapidated homestead. Adjacent power lines were not damaged and this also provided clues to the intensity toward the end of the life-cycle. Radar imagery and video suggests the tornado was potentially stronger earlier in the track while in open grasslands. In addition, a storm chaser documented a periodic funnels with the storm and although they didn't fully condense to the ground, there was periodic dust picked up below at the surface. Isolated damage indicators provided challenges for the survey, however a relatively narrow path of damage mainly consisting of snapped large tree limbs did exits west to southwest of Alison. There was one small out building destroyed as well, but the EF1 tornado rating was based on snapped power poles early in the track. Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 4 miles Path Width /maximum/: 1800 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 1 Start Date: 06/25/2026 Start Time: 08:00 PM CDT Start Location: 1 NW Wheeler / Wheeler County / TX Start Lat/Lon: 35.452 / -100.2894 End Date: 06/28/2026 End Time: 08:05 PM CDT End Location: 3 SSE Wheeler / Wheeler County / TX End Lat/Lon: 35.404 / -100.2554 Survey Summary: A combination of a storm survey, eyewitness reports, and radar data indicates that damage from a severe storm across western Wheeler was caused by a strong rear-flank downdraft on the backside of a powerful supercell. The path of the most significant damage was approximately one mile wide. The most severe damage occurred in an RV park, where 16 unanchored travel trailers were rolled and destroyed. The south end of the trailer park was downstream from open areas, which likely contributed to higher wind speeds and greater damage in that specific section of the park. One injury was reported, but most residents had either evacuated to a shelter or were not home at the time. An overturned pickup truck at the site was likely pushed over by adjacent rolling trailers. Other damage included snapped power poles, numerous broken large tree limbs, and a few uprooted trees. Several homes and businesses sustained significant roof damage, including metal buildings that were compromised after their overhead doors failed. Most well-constructed or newer structures sustained only minor damage or remained unscathed.
