Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
253 PM CDT Thu May 28 2026

...NWS Damage Survey for the 05/26/26 Severe Thunderstorm in
Kirby, Texas...

A team from the Austin/San Antonio National Weather Service
conducted a damage survey of areas in Kirby, Texas, that were
impacted by severe weather during the late evening on Tuesday, May
26.

The survey team concluded that severe downdraft winds, associated
with a supercell thunderstorm, impacted the community of Kirby
between 9:55 PM and 9:59 PM CDT. These severe winds resulted in
sporadic damage in Kirby, located approximately 8 miles northeast
of downtown San Antonio.

Imagery and drone footage from the Texas Department of Emergency
Management (TDEM) and the Bexar County Office of Emergency
Management, in addition to the NWS ground survey, noted
intermittent damage to trees and fences, mainly south of Binz
Engleman Road. Damage included medium to large tree branches
snapped, several downed fences and a few locations with sheet
metal damage on structures. The most concentrated area of damage
was located near James Webb Drive where a carport roof was
displaced. The visible damage is indicative of maximum wind speeds
of approximately 75 mph.

NOTE:
The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to
change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS
Storm Data.
