A team from the Austin/San Antonio National Weather Service conducted a damage survey of areas in Kirby, Texas, that were impacted by severe weather during the late evening on Tuesday, May 26. The survey team concluded that severe downdraft winds, associated with a supercell thunderstorm, impacted the community of Kirby between 9:55 PM and 9:59 PM CDT. These severe winds resulted in sporadic damage in Kirby, located approximately 8 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio. Imagery and drone footage from the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) and the Bexar County Office of Emergency Management, in addition to the NWS ground survey, noted intermittent damage to trees and fences, mainly south of Binz Engleman Road. Damage included medium to large tree branches snapped, several downed fences and a few locations with sheet metal damage on structures. The most concentrated area of damage was located near James Webb Drive where a carport roof was displaced. The visible damage is indicative of maximum wind speeds of approximately 75 mph.
