...Preliminary NWS Damage Survey Findings from 12/28/25 Event...

As of Monday evening December 29th, NWS Chicago has confirmed 5
tornadoes (1 in Livingston County, 4 in Iroquois County) and a
severe microburst (Fairbury-Forrest area in Livingston County).
Damage in the Gibson City area of Ford County is still being
investigated.

.Fairbury - Forrest...

The survey team confirmed that a concentrated area of straight-
line wind damage in and west of Forrest was produced by a
microburst with estimated peak winds of 80 mph. According to radar
and reports, the microburst is estimated to have occurred around
10:34 AM CST on 12/28/2025.

Damage consisted of downed power poles and trees, at least one
shed blown off of its foundation, and a portion of Prairie Central
Junior High School's gymnasium getting blown off.

Survey Summary:
This tornado formed west of Clifton near the intersection of N
400 East Rd. and E 2900 North Rd. Three power poles were snapped
as the tornado tracked across E 2900 North Rd. At a property at
the intersection of N 500 East Rd. and E 2900 North Rd., tree
damage was noted, and roofing material was peeled off of a house.

As the tornado continued to move east-northeastward and crossed N
600 East Rd. and E 2950 North Rd., two farm outbuildings had
portions of their roofs ripped off at the same property.
Additional tree damage was also noted. The tornado likely lifted
before reaching N 700 East Rd.

.Gibson City 1.5 S...

A portion of the roof of the one of the Dairyland Seed buildings
was destroyed at approximately 3:32 PM CST on 12/28/2025. NWS
Chicago meteorologists, in coordination with Gibson City officials
and the Ford County EMA, will complete their investigation of this
damage and confirm its cause within the next day or two.

End Location: 2 SW St. Anne, Iroquois County, IL
End Lat/Lon: 41.0028 / -87.7453

Survey Summary:
This tornado likely began in a field approximately two miles east
of Clifton based on a tight gate-to-gate velocity couplet sampled
by the KLOT radar. In the first few minutes of its lifespan, the
tornado largely remained over open fields and may have briefly
lifted as little damage was observed near and west of U.S.
Highway 45/52.

However, the tornado strengthened as it tracked across and east
of N 1500 East Rd. At the intersection of E 3100 North Rd. and N
1600 East Rd., a residence had a sizable portion of its eastward-
facing roof torn off and deposited in the downstream field.
Several trees at this property were damaged as well, including one
softwood tree whose top was snapped off and tossed about 100
yards to the east. At the adjacent property to the east-northeast,
a barn was shifted off of its foundation and had a portion of its
roof peeled.

As the tornado reached the Iroquois River, it tore the roof off
of a garage and peeled roofing material off of a house at a
property next to the river. Extensive tree damage was noted at
this property and just to the east along the river, where multiple
trees were uprooted and dozens of trees lost limbs and branches.
It here where the tornado was estimated to have reached its peak
intensity. The tornado weakened east of the Iroquois River, but
continued to cause tree damage as it approached and crossed N 1800
East Rd. A residence along N 1900 East Rd. and two additional
barns along N 2000 East Rd were then damaged by the tornado. The
tornado lifted over a field southwest of St. Anne, shortly after
it tipped over an irrigation pivot.

End Location: 4 ESE Chebanse, Iroquois County, IL
End Lat/Lon: 40.9821 / -87.8272

Survey Summary:
This tornado likely began near or just west of N 1300 East Rd.
northeast of Clifton, where some twigs and branches were downed
across the road. Little to no damage was observed as the tornado
tracked across fields on either side of U.S. Highway 45/52.

The tornado then impacted a farmstead along N 1500 East Rd. just
north of E 3200 North Rd., peeling roof shingles off of the house
at the property and damaging multiple farm outbuildings. One
outbuilding was blown off of its foundation, while another
collapsed entirely after it was penetrated by the tornado's
estimated 85 mph peak winds. The tornado likely lifted before
reaching the Iroquois River as no damage was noted to the treeline
along the river or anywhere east of there.

.Martinton...

Rating: EFU (unknown intensity)
Estimated Peak Wind: N/A

Path Width /maximum/: N/A
Fatalities: 0
Injuries: 0

Start Date: 12/28/2025
Start Time: 03:55 PM CST

Start Lat/Lon: TBD

End Date: 12/28/2025
End Time: 03:59 PM CST
End Location: Approx. 0.75 SE Martinton, Iroquois County, IL
End Lat/Lon: TBD

Summary:

Based on storm spotter and storm chaser reports, videos, and
photos of a funnel cloud extending nearly to the ground, a brief
tornado was confirmed to have occurred. This tornado appeared to
have tracked across open farm fields just south of Martinton and
thus produced no known damage. A video of the tornado lifting
behind the Martinton water tower at about 3:59 PM had a view
towards the southeast from N 2100 East Rd near the intersection
with County Rd 2800 N. Thus, the tornado ended approximately in
the vicinity of County Rd 2750 N.

Survey Summary:
A large, west-facing section of the metal roof of the southernmost
building at the GDM (formerly Dairyland Seed) facility south of
Gibson City was peeled eastward as a developing miniature
supercell storm passed overhead. While no condensation funnel was
evident, eyewitnesses reported visible rotation in the clouds
passing over the facility and debris from the impacted building
getting lofted and swirled around in the air before getting
deposited in the field to the east of the facility. This would
suggest that a brief tornado occurred here. This tornado appeared
to only cause high-end EF-0 damage to the one building at the GDM
facility before ending a few hundred yards to the east-northeast.
