During the evening of Friday May 30th, a rotating thunderstorm that was noted on NWS weather radar KLWX moved east northeast across the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. At 6:06 PM EDT the rotation tightened, and a tornado touched down on the Luray Mobile Homes community on Luray Mobile Homes Lane. The tornado created a narrow path of damage east northeast through the community and into the woods. Three large trees were uprooted and several large branches were snapped from the middle to upper reaches of the trees. Damage was in a convergent pattern. A few vehicles were damaged by falling branches. The tornado then crossed farming fields until it came to the property adjacent to where Kimball Road intersects with Springfield Road. The resident there provided his eyewitness account of seeing the rotating tornado and debris. On that property, several large branches and sections of trees were snapped by the tornado as it crossed. Also a gardening fence was destroyed. After crossing Kimball Road, a downdraft descended from the parent storm, ending the tornadic circulation at 6:08 PM EDT. That downdraft continued to produce damage as it pushed to the east-northeast. On properties along Springfield and Outpost Roads, four more trees were felled, large branches were snapped, and a large shed was unroofed and destroyed. By the time the storm reached Elgin Drive, no further damage was seen. The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington Weather Forecast Office thanks the Page County Office of Emergency Services for their assistance in conducting and providing information for this storm survey. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.........65 to 85 mph EF1.........86 to 110 mph EF2.........111 to 135 mph EF3.........136 to 165 mph EF4.........166 to 200 mph EF5.........>200 mph $$

One storm briefly produced a tornado in northwestern Anne Arundel County Maryland, in southern Odenton. At 2:15 PM EST, a tornado touched down in the community of Chapel Village, just south of the southern end of Chapel Hill Blvd. There, along the north edge of a water retention pond, it uprooted two trees. It continued southeast and crossed the 800 block of Sunny Chapel Road. Here is where the damage was most intense. Three homes had siding and shingle damage. Behind one of the homes, numerous trees were uprooted and large sections of trees snapped. At least two trees fell onto homes, and one crushed an outdoor deck. Damage on the north side of the path was blown to the south, and damage on the south side of the path was blown to the north-northeast. The tornado proceeded southeast, and crossed the southern cul-de-sac of Golden Chapel Road. There it damaged shingles and siding on three additional homes, blew out the attic window on two homes, and uprooted three more trees and snapped large branches. At this point, after just a minute on the ground and a tenth of a mile path, the tornado lifted at 2:16 PM EDT. A funnel cloud video was shared on social media from Odenton. The ground survey continued to the southeast, but only isolated tree damage was seen sporadically, likely due to the severe thunderstorm wind gusts at times from the parent thunderstorm. The National Weather Service extends its appreciation to the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management and our SKYWARN weather spotters who passed us damage information to supplement our ground survey.

The storm had earlier produced a waterspout on Breton Bay that was captured on video. The tornado uprooted about 10 trees along Medleys Neck Road and Cedar Hill Lane. It also snapped the tops of 10 trees. Tree damage was oriented in different directions. Two trees impacted homes, one fell on a vehicle, but no injuries were reported. The tornadic touchdown was brief, as the storm quickly produced a severe downdraft that ended the circulation, and continued to produce scattered tree damage along its path east through St. Mary's County. The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington would like to thank St. Mary's County Department of Emergency Services, who provided invaluable support for this survey, as well as trained spotters and the public for providing photos and videos. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.........65 to 85 mph EF1.........86 to 110 mph EF2.........111 to 135 mph EF3.........136 to 165 mph EF4.........166 to 200 mph EF5.........>200 mph $$ Strong/Rodriguez/Belak
