...NWS Damage Survey for 6/11/2026 Tornado Event - Update #7...

.Update...

This update includes one additional tornado: a brief EF-U
satellite associated with the weakening Kouts tornado. Several
tracks have been refined based on review of high-resolution
satellite imagery.

.Overview...

On June 11, 2026, a regional tornado outbreak impacted portions of
Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. In the NWS Chicago
service area, there were a total of 24 tornadoes making the June
11 event the 2nd largest on record by count of tornadoes (the
record is 32 tornadoes associated with the July 15, 2024 derecho).
Remarkably, there were no direct fatalities associated with the
June 11, 2026 tornado outbreak across the entire region.

Below is a summary of damage survey findings in the NWS Chicago
service area across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana from
the June 11, 2026 tornado outbreak. All of the information in
this Public Information Statement is preliminary and subject to
change. We thank our partnering emergency management and media
partners across the region for their help in collecting
information during and after the tornado outbreak which greatly
aided in the damage survey process.

End Lat/Lon: 41.0719 / -88.9395

Survey Summary:
This tornado started in the vicinity of N 8th Road near Sandy
Creek. Distinct swirl marks were evident as the tornado tracked
northeast before moving almost due east and crossing E 9th Road
roughly one third of a mile south of IL-17. The tornado then
continued on a northeasterly path impacting a residence on IL-17
where it damaged a roof, snapped a large hardwood tree about one
third of the way from the top, and downed a wooden electrical
pole. The tornado then continued along IL-17, destroying multiple
machine sheds in the 900 block with debris strewn northeastward
toward E 10th Road. Storm chaser video showed at least three fast-
moving sub-vortices as the tornado continued northeast while
crossing E 10th Road. Here, high resolution Sentinel satellite
imagery revealed significant cycloidal markings within an
approximately 500 yard wide area. The tornado was likely stronger
than the official rating of EF1 at this location, though a lack of
damage indicators precludes a higher rating. The tornado then
appeared to weaken rapidly and lift near N 10th Road just west of
the Livingston County line.

End Location: 2 NE Streator / La Salle County / IL
End Lat/Lon: 41.1486 / -88.8

Survey Summary:
The tornado began in a field southwest of E 2600 N Road and N 190
East Road. It then tracked into Long Point where damage to trees
was noted before continuing northeast causing sporadic damage
near Ancona and Reading Township. The tornado intensified as it
crossed east of N 500 East Road where it blew a grain bin off the
foundation and dragged it along the ground for approximately 700
yards. The tornado reached its peak intensity on the southeast
side of Streator near the Livingston-La Salle County line. Here,
several houses along Sunbury Drive were heavily damaged. At one
residence, only the inner-most walls were left standing with
debris tossed southward, upstream against the tornado path. Damage
in this area was consistent with EF-3 winds around 145 mph. The
tornado continued northeast before turning nearly due north
causing damage consistent with EF-2 caliber winds to several
residences along E 19th Road. The tornado appeared to have lifted
northeast of Streator near N 1475th Road.

before tracking northeastward across portions of central
Livingston County. The tornado may not have been fully condensed
to the ground or consisted of intermittent touchdowns along the
first two thirds of the path with damage primarily confined to
trees. Based on storm chaser videos, the tornado appeared to
rapidly strengthen and widen while crossing Route 47 and
approaching the unincorporated community of Blair where several
homesteads sustained roof and siding damage and several barns were
destroyed. Storm chaser video depicted subvortices within the
tornado as it crossed several open fields in the general area. The
tornado then appeared to lift just north of Route 17. The tornado

of Grand Boulevard and Clay Street just east of Interstate 65 in
rural Lake County and continued northeastward into southern Porter
County just north of the Kankakee River. Damage near the beginning

sets of high tension power trusses were sheared apart and
collapsed. There was significant scouring of the ground and damage
to crops in this region, as well. The tornado began to weaken as

show swirl marks in fields as it tracked northeast and eventually
turned toward the north-northeast. The tornado then dissipated
