Survey Summary:
A brief tornado occurred in north Pickens County, GA in the late
evening hours of July 28, 2026, first producing damage at
10:29 PM EDT. Damage was first observed to the south of the
Pickens/Gordon County line, where a few trees were uprooted near
a home on Phil Dundee Way. The tornado continued southeast, where
it uprooted trees along the northern portion of Outback Rd. To
this point, the uprooted trees combined with minimal damage near
the ground indicated that the rotation remained mainly elevated,
only sporadically touching the surface. As it continued along its
southeast path, the tornado brought trees down across E Price
Creek Rd and additionally uprooted or snapped trees on Outback
Ridge Trail. The most substantial damage occurred near a home at
the intersection of Outback Ridge Trail and E Price Creek Rd,
where several trees were uprooted and another was snapped. A
barrier comprised of 6x6  boards was also pulled from the ground
by one tree being uprooted. The elevation of the terrain
decreased to the south of this location, though there were signs
of disturbance in the trees along the downward slope. The next
indicator of damage was observed along Jack Pinyon Rd where a
tree was snapped. Additional damage occurred near the
intersection of E Price Creek Rd and Mountain Crest Dr where
smaller trees and limbs were downed on both sides of the road.
After taking a more southerly turn, the tornado last produced
damage on Old Burnt Mountain Rd where a partially dead tree was
brought down across the road. The tornado appears to have
dissipated by 10:33 PM EDT.

...NWS Damage Survey for 07/28/2026 Severe (Tornado) Event...

.Update/Overview...
After collaboration with Towns County EMA, local residents and 
NWS Greenville-Spartanburg who led the ground survey, another 
tornado was confirmed from the July 28th squall line that tracked
south during the evening hours. In addition to multiple damaging 
wind reports and several flooding incidents, two tornadoes were 
confirmed (this one and another EF0 in Pickens County). Here is 
the latest information from Towns County. Details on the Pickens
County tornado was released on July 31st.

Survey Summary:
A brief tornado occurred across very complex terrain of eastern
Towns County (far northeast Georgia) during the evening of July
28th. The tornado was embedded within a severe line of storms
(quasi-linear convective complex / QLCS). This line produced
additional tornadoes as it moved south over north Georgia. Ground
and aerial (drone) surveying revealed the tornado damage came
from mainly trees snapped or uprooted, initially seen along Hwy
76, near Adkins Lane. Multiple trees were down heading up the
ridge from Hwy 76 and additional damage was seen from Hwy
76 looking west toward the Towns and Rabun county line.

survey.
