Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.70 miles Path Width /maximum/: 75 yards Fatalities: 2 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 09/26/2024 Start Time: 08:56 PM EDT Start Location: 2 NNE Jordan / Wheeler County / GA Start Lat/Lon: 32.0583 / -82.6513 End Date: 09/26/2024 End Time: 08:58 PM EDT End Location: 2 N Jordan / Wheeler County / GA End Lat/Lon: 32.0671 / -82.657 Survey Summary: A brief tornado occurred in rural Wheeler County ahead of Hurricane Helene during the evening hours of September 26th. The tornado touched down and crossed Hwy 19 near the intersections of Ponderosa Road and Adams Cemetery Road. A few small trees were snapped, but the main damage was to a mobile home/trailer that was completely destroyed with debris thrown across Hwy 19 into a field about 75 yards away. The mobile home/trailer was not fastened down and there are no pics of what it looked like before it was hit. Based on this, we went below the lower bound thresholds for MH being completely destroyed but still estimated a low-end EF-1 tornado (max winds of 90 mph). && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
