A quasi-stationary surface boundary draped west to east across the northern peninsula and an approaching upper-level disturbance combined to create an environment of moderate shear and instability over parts of the Nature Coast and West Central Florida favoring organized convection on Tuesday afternoon, as a cluster of thunderstorms that originated over the eastern Gulf during the morning slowly traversed eastward and approached the western Florida coast by early afternoon. A storm exhibiting supercell characteristics while offshore over the eastern Gulf moved ashore near Hudson in Pasco County, producing an EF-0 tornado around 1814 UTC (2:14 PM EDT) that traveled for just over one mile crossing U.S. Hwy 19 near Hudson before dissipating. Indications of intermittent straight-line wind damage were observed northeast of where the tornado was estimated to have dissipated, before radar indicated increasing rotation west of Shady Hills about 20 minutes later, and a second tornado is estimated to have touched down around 1843 UTC (2:43 PM EDT), producing EF-0 damage while moving very slowly and tracking less than one mile before dissipating. .Hudson Tornado... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.19 miles Path Width /maximum/: 400 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/12/2026 Start Time: 02:14 PM EDT Start Location: 1 SW Hudson / Pasco County / FL Start Lat/Lon: 28.3493 / -82.7068 End Date: 05/12/2026 End Time: 02:19 PM EDT End Location: 1 E Hudson / Pasco County / FL End Lat/Lon: 28.3562 / -82.6890 A storm exhibiting supercell characteristics for multiple hours while offshore moved ashore with a tornado estimated to have touched down around 1814 UTC (2:14 PM EDT) near Hudson in Pasco County, while continuing to exhibit a rotational signature via KTBW WSR-88D and TTPA TDWR. Damage was initially observed along Saltwater Blvd, where a tree branch was snapped and fell onto a power line. Additional damage points were noted further east along Saltwater Blvd, with two homes suffering partial roof damage or loss. Additional homes suffered various degrees of roof, lanai or carport damage at points northward across Puffin, Heron and Curlew Lanes, while tree damage was noted across nearby Osprey and Gull Lanes. The tornado then crossed U.S. Hwy 19 before the radar signature became increasingly disorganized shortly thereafter, and it is likely that the tornado dissipated sometime around 1819 UTC (2:19 PM EDT) between Whitby Road and Lakeshore Blvd after traveling for just over one mile. .Shady Hills Tornado... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.69 miles Path Width /maximum/: 250 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/12/2026 Start Time: 02:43 PM EDT Start Location: 4 ESE Aripeka / Pasco County / FL Start Lat/Lon: 28.4008 / -82.6078 End Date: 05/12/2026 End Time: 02:48 PM EDT End Location: 4 SSW Spring Hill / Pasco County / FL End Lat/Lon: 28.3948/ -82.5991 The development of a second circulation became apparent west of Shady Hills around 20 minutes after the circulation associated with the Hudson tornado weakened, and it is estimated that a tornado touched down near Gladwin Avenue to the west of East Road at approximately 1843 UTC (2:43 PM EDT). Damage from this tornado consisted largely of snapped tree limbs and branches, although a large tree was uprooted and downed onto a mobile home along Eden Avenue near the intersection of East Road. The tornado moved very slowly east and east-southeast while appearing to exhibit a bit of a binary interaction with the remnant circulation that produced the Hudson tornado that was located to its east, before radar indicated it likely dissipated around 1848 UTC (2:48 PM EDT), less than one mile from where it is estimated to have touched down. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
