A few warehouses the intersection of Bill Joseph and Folmar sustained roof and siding damage, with several trees down as well. At the end of County Ct adjacent to I-65, two warehouses sustained major roof loss on a corner of each building along with a cinder-block wall collapse on one. Several semi trailers were flipped or tossed as well. After scattering debris across the interstate, two businesses at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Fischer Rd sustained roof and structural damage, with several more semi trailer behind the buildings being flipped or moved. Just south of this location, Hooper Academy had mostly minor damage to the building and surrounding grounds which was not directly related to the tornado. Continuing east-northeast, several trees were uprooted north of Lagos Ln as the tornado tracked northeastward toward Hyundai Blvd. A newly constructed greenhouse-type building south of the main Hyundai facility had much of the covering ripped off. A house and shed at Hyundai Blvd had roof loss, and across the road a small metal building at the southeast corner of the Hyundai campus had roofing removed and blown across a railroad into a tree line. Tree damage gradually became more concentrated as the tornado moved northeastward, with a home south of Ridgeland Farms Rd having the top of a pine tree fall on it. Several trees were uprooted across wooded areas before the tornado arrived at Mt. Zion Rd, where numerous pine trees were snapped or uprooted, one of which fell into the corner of a double wide. Significant splatter was observed on the east facing side of the double wide. A couple sheds nearby sustained damage as well. Numerous trees were uprooted northeastward across wooded areas and pastures to Woodley Rd and further to U.S. 231, where the BBQ Hill business sustained roof damage and had numerous pine trees snapped or uprooted on the premises. More trees were damaged and an outbuilding was damaged along Old Carter Hill Rd as the tornado dissipated. .Tornado #9 Cecil Tornado (Montgomery County)... Three more tornadoes have been confirmed after additional storm survey work today. This was in Marion and Lamar Counties. An ongoing storm survey was also completed southwest of Vernon. This brings the total number of confirmed tornadoes in Central Alabama county warning area to 16. Additional storm surveys may be conducted in the coming days as we continue to investigate new storm reports and aerial footage. .Overview... On Saturday, December 28, 2024, a strong storm system impacted much of the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee River Valleys with strong to severe thunderstorms. Many of these storms produced damaging wind gusts, tornadoes, and even isolated flooding. This storm system eventually moved across Central Alabama Saturday night into early Sunday morning as a quasi-linear convective system, though a few isolated supercells were observed. These storms produced damaging wind gusts and tornadoes across Central Alabama from around 9 PM CST through around 3 AM CST. Numerous tornadoes, many of them brief, have been documented along the storm's path across Central Alabama. .Tornado #1 Molloy Tornado (Lamar County)... The tornado continued to the northeast and produced significant tree damage around a residence near the intersection of County Highway 46 and State Highway 233. This brings the total number of confirmed tornadoes in the NWS Birmingham forecast area to 18. Additionally, updates were made to tornadoes in Lowndes, Montgomery, and Macon Counties. Based on new damage reports, the Hargrove Lane tornado was raised to 75 mph, extended through the Rolling Acres neighborhood to just across the county line in Montgomery County, and renamed the Rolling Acres tornado. The Hope Hull tornado has been raised to 110 mph after further analysis of damaged warehouses near I-65. The County Road 8 tornado in Macon County was lowered from 85 mph to 75 mph. .Overview... On Saturday, December 28, 2024, a strong storm system impacted much of the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee River Valleys with strong to severe thunderstorms. Additionally, metal panels were removed from the roof and sides of a farm outbuilding. A few hundred yards to the north, a well-defined area of significant tree damage occurred, where many dozen to perhaps hundreds of pine trees were snapped. These non-contiguous pockets of well- defined damage suggest the tornado was characterized by multiple vortices. The tornado widened substantially and maintained its multiple vortex nature as it continued to the northeast and moved into Hale County. Pockets of non-contiguous damage were found along Carnation Road and County Road 17, where the tornado was nearly one mile wide. Near the intersection of Carnation Road and Quail Drive, a hay barn was demolished, and at least two residences sustained uplift and removal of roof covering materials. Along County Road 17, dozens of trees were snapped and uprooted. The tornado then made a northward turn as it moved through the center of Sawyerville, where only very minor damage was observed along State Highway 14. Tree damage gradually became more concentrated as the tornado moved northeastward, with a home south of Ridgeland Farms Rd having the top of a pine tree fall on it. Several trees were uprooted across wooded areas before the tornado arrived at Mt. Zion Rd, where numerous pine trees were snapped or uprooted, one of which fell into the corner of a double-wide mobile home. Significant splatter was observed on the east facing side of the double-wide. A couple sheds nearby sustained damage as well. Numerous trees were uprooted northeastward across wooded areas and pastures to Woodley Rd and further to U.S. 231, it was here where the BBQ Hill business sustained roof damage and had numerous pine trees snapped or uprooted on the premises. More trees were downed and an outbuilding was damaged along Old Carter Hill Rd as the tornado dissipated. .Cecil Tornado... One storm within the line produced a low-end EF1 tornado that impacted parts of Pickens County around 9 PM. .Tornado #1 - Pine Grove Road Tornado (Pickens County)... The tornado began over an inaccessible area southeast of Zach Simon Road and moved east-northeastward for nearly seven miles. Along County Road 7, a house had metal roofing removed, and several pine and cedar trees were downed or had limbs broken off. The tornado was at its widest and strongest point along Pine Grove Road, where numerous trees were downed, including a stand of pine trees along the road of which approximately 15-20 trunks were snapped. Power lines were downed by falling trees. A couple uprooted pine trees fell onto a garage and the adjacent house sustained partial roof loss. More trees were uprooted and limbs were snapped as the tornado moved across a farm along McDaniel Road. The path became more narrow along McShane Road/Phoenix Avenue, where several trees were downed on both sides of the road in a 125 yard-wide swath. Along County Road 12, a few more trees and limbs were downed, and a small wooden power pole was snapped, causing the power lines to fall. Along Highway 17 near Herbert Windle Road, a couple trees were downed near a house and across the highway several cedar limbs were downed near another house.
