...NWS Damage Survey for 12/19/25 Thunderstorm Wind Event
in the Wharton and Barrett Communities of Boone County, WV...

A NWS Damage Survey determined that straight-line winds up to 90
mph caused the tree and structural damage in the Wharton and
Barrett Communities around 100 am on Friday December 19th.

The high winds appeared to surface near the intersection of Cow
Creek Rd and Pond Fork Rd/Route 85 and then followed the
terrain, forking off in two directions. Some tree and minor
structural damage was noted heading in a north to northwesterly
direction up Pond Fork Rd/Route 85. It is in this area that a wind
gust of 70 mph was recorded by a Davis weather station mounted on
the roof of the Wharton Volunteer Fire Department at 108 AM.
Another more significant fork of high winds traveled in a
southeasterly direction approximately 3/4 mile down Pond Fork
Rd/Route 85 into the Barrett Community. Several homes were damaged
in this area with significant roof damage noted on some double
wide and single wide homes. It is likely that wind speeds reached
up to 90 mph in this area.

Thanks to the Wharton Volunteer Fire Department and Boone County
Emergency Management for assistance with this damage survey.
