...NWS Damage Survey for 09/13/25 Sawtooth Mountain Tornado - Update #1...

Update... After receiving additional ground images of the tree 
damage from the damage scar location, have given this tornado an 
EF-1 rating, with an estimated peak wind speed of 88 mph.

A brief tornado developed along the northern slopes of Sawtooth 
Mountain during the early afternoon of September 13th, 2025. This 
tornado was at approximately 11,300ft in elevation. It quickly 
pushed eastward causing tree damage and then dissipated after 
about 5 minutes. Images from Saguache County Emergency Management 
and a damage scar recognized via satellite data, were used to 
perform the damage survey. Both radar data and the environment 
were supportive of a tornado at this location. Given increased 
confidence regarding the damage indicators, the tornado has been 
rated EF-1.

following categories:

EF0.....65 to 85 mph
EF1.....86 to 110 mph
EF2.....111 to 135 mph
EF3.....136 to 165 mph
EF4.....166 to 200 mph
EF5.....>200 mph
