Peak Wind: 75-80 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.25 miles Path Width /maximum/: 300 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: Thursday 6/18/2026 Start Time: 5:01 AM EDT Start Location: 1.5 Miles WNW Hollow Creek Start Lat/Lon: 38.158/-85.650 End Date: Thursday 6/18/2026 End Time: 5:02 AM EDT End Location: .25 Miles SW Hollow Creek End Lat/Lon: 38.151/-85.629 Survey Summary: An NWS Storm Survey determined that a swath of straight line wind damage occurred on the morning of June 18th. Most of the damage occurred near the intersection of Poplar Level Road and Fern Valley Road where a warehouse building roof was partially collapsed, a small building lost some roofing material, and a tree was downed. The collapsed roof was pancaked downward with no debris lifted or thrown downstream. In addition, some insulation from the roof collapse was laying on the north side of the building, but not scattered downwind. The orientation of the tree damage was NW to SE, and consistent with TDWR velocity data showing a wind surge from WNW to ESE. Severe level wind gusts were measured with this velocity surge upstream of the damage as well. Sporadic tree damage also occurred to the ESE of the initial damage point along Fegenbush Lane. Damage stopped just north of Luhr Elementary School after a 1.25 mile swath of sporadic damage. There had been a supercell thunderstorm that passed through the area about 15 minutes prior, however the TSDF TDWR noted no low level rotational couplet with the radar beam at 200-300 feet AGL. Some mid level rotation was noted off of LVX, but at a higher overall height. Both radar data and damage patterns, as well as an eyewitness account just after 5 AM all pointed more toward the second straight line wind signature as the culprit. A second area of damage was also surveyed in Fern Creek along Volney Ct. Here, a large branch from a healthy large tree fell into the corner bedroom of a home. Luckily, occupants inside where shaken, but not injured. It was determined that this damage occurred just before Midnight, well before any thunderstorms arrived. This damage was attributed to non-thunderstorm gradient winds. Nearby observations at from the KLOU ASOS at Bowman Field did measure a 44 MPH gust around the time the residents said the damage occurred. && NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ BJS

Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 5.64 miles Path Width /maximum/: 0 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 06/21/2026 Start Time: 10:25 PM EDT Start Location: 1 S Leavenworth / Meade County / IN Start Lat/Lon: 38.1795 / -86.3497 End Date: 06/21/2026 End Time: 10:32 PM EDT End Location: 1 NW New Amsterdam / Meade County / IN End Lat/Lon: 38.1137 / -86.2913 Survey Summary: The National Weather Service conducted a storm survey in Meade County, Kentucky for the storms that moved through the region late Sunday night, June 21, 2026. The nature of the damage was consistent with straight line wind damage between 80 and 85 mph in the Big Bend area of Meade county. Damage was first observed on Big Bend Road where several trees were uprooted or snapped due to the high winds. Paradise Bottom Road also had some tree damage. Damaged areas north of the rock quarry near Big Bend Road had a similar direction facing to the north. Tree damage continued along Battletown Road north of Battletown. All damage south of the rock quarry near Big Bend Road was facing to the south. These damage directions would indicate a thunderstorm downburst likely occurred in the Big Bend area with winds spreading out in different divergent directions, evident of a thunderstorm downburst. The National Weather Service would like to thank Meade County Emergency Management for assistance with the survey, as well as the many helpful homeowners who called in and shared pictures of their damages. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ MK
