...NWS Damage Survey for 08/07/2026 Tornado Event...

.Overview...Several supercell thunderstorms moved through
northeast and eastern Iowa Friday afternoon and evening, producing
swaths of significant wind damage, wind driven hail damage, and a
few tornadoes.

...Rural Fairbank Tornado...

Rating: EF2
Estimated Peak Wind: 120 mph
Path Length /statute/: 5.00 miles
Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards
Fatalities: 0
Injuries: 0

Start Date: 08/07/2026
Start Time: 04:12 PM CDT
Start Location: 2 SE Fairbank / Buchanan County / IA
Start Lat/Lon: 42.6143 / -92.0283

End Date: 08/08/2026
End Time: 04:20 PM CDT
End Location: 3 NE Littleton / Buchanan County / IA
End Lat/Lon: 42.5563 / -91.9743

Survey Summary:
A well documented, large spatially, HP supercell low-level
mesocyclone produced an EF2 tornado along its 5 mile path. Most
of the damage was EF1 damage to structures and trees. It is
likely that this tornado had numerous short-lived vortices on the
ground leading to the damage observed. Towards the end of it's
path. The tornado snapped a wooden H frame power pole at its
base, and also pulled four other H frames from the ground. The
damage to the power poles suggests winds at least up to 120 MPH.

...Rural Prairieburg Tornado...

Rating: EF1
Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph
Path Length /statute/: 0.35 miles
Path Width /maximum/: 25 yards
Fatalities: 0
Injuries: 0

Start Date: 08/08/2026
Start Time: 05:11 PM CDT
Start Location: 2 WNW Prairieburg / Linn County / IA
Start Lat/Lon: 42.2567 / -91.4683

End Date: 08/08/2026
End Time: 05:12 PM CDT
End Location: 2 WNW Prairieburg / Linn County / IA
End Lat/Lon: 42.252 / -91.4656

Survey Summary:
A short lived EF1 tornado with max winds to 100 MPH hit a
farmstead causing damage to an outbuilding. A piece of the roof
of that building was shot through the wall of the house. The
homestead then experienced 2 to 3 minutes of 80 to 90 MPH
straight-line winds. Widespread straight-line wind and hail, impacted
much of the area near Prairieburg.

EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the
following categories:

EF0.....65 to 85 mph
EF1.....86 to 110 mph
EF2.....111 to 135 mph
EF3.....136 to 165 mph
EF4.....166 to 200 mph
EF5.....>200 mph
