Rating: EF2 Estimated Peak Wind: 130 mph Path Length /statute/: 9.67 miles Path Width /maximum/: 175 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/17/2026 Start Time: 02:17 PM CDT Start Location: 1 N Stewartville / Olmsted County / MN Start Lat/Lon: 43.8722 / -92.4826 End Date: 04/17/2026 End Time: 02:31 PM CDT End Location: 1 SW Chester / Olmsted County / MN End Lat/Lon: 43.9839 / -92.3687 Survey Summary: The tornado formed just northeast of Stewartville around 2:17 pm and traveled about 10 miles northeast damaging numerous homes and farms. Some of the worst damage was seen near Marion Road just northeast of Highway 52 where homes were more severely damaged with roof removal and partially collapsed exterior walls. The tornado was on the ground for about 14 minutes using radar estimation. At its widest, mainly in rural areas, it was approximately 175 yards. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$

Rating: EF2 Estimated Peak Wind: 125 mph Path Length /statute/: 7.50 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/17/2026 Start Time: 02:46 PM CDT Start Location: 2 E Viola / Olmsted County / MN Start Lat/Lon: 44.0689 / -92.2182 End Date: 04/17/2026 End Time: 03:00 PM CDT End Location: 2 ESE Plainview / Wabasha County / MN End Lat/Lon: 44.152 / -92.123 Survey Summary: The EF2 tornado affected mainly rural areas northeast of Rochester MN beginning about 5 miles east-northeast of Viola in northeast Olmsted county around 2:46 pm. The tornado tracked northeast damaging trees and outbuildings. One farm house lost a roof and garage roof portions. The tornado ended in Wabasha county a few miles southeast of Plainview MN at 3:00 pm.
