...Thunderstorm Wind Damage in Spokane Oct 25 2025...

The storm system that brought a cold front to the Pacific
Northwest region Friday carried additional windy and stormy
weather on Saturday with an added threat of (15-30% chance)
thunderstorms. The southeast corner of Washington, including up
through Spokane County, carried a 5% probability of damaging
thunderstorm wind gusts of 50 knots (57 mph) or more, as forecast
from the Storm Prediction Center.

Peak wind gusts observed across Spokane county ranged from 15 to
50 mph, with the strongest gusts recorded at the Spokane
International Airport (49 mph gust 4:35 pm Saturday Oct 25). Radar
estimated wind gust of 50 knots (57 mph) was located near NW Blvd
and Ash/Maple Street in Spokane, about 3 blocks from Audubon
Elementary. 2-day rainfall amounts in the Spokane city area ranged
from 0.16 inches to 0.50 inches, with 0.31 inches recorded at the
Airport.

After a damage survey and reviewing the level of damage sustained
to the Audubon neighborhood including the Audubon Elementary
School and points to the northeast including the intersection of
Chelan Ave/Ash Street, this event is classified as thunderstorm
wind damage. Video footage shared with the National Weather
Service appeared to indicate a lowering of the clouds and possible
brief funnel cloud but no evidence of rotation was found at the
surface during the damage survey. The damage observed in the
Audubon neighborhood is consistent with a strong localized
downdraft resulting in a narrow swath of estimated wind speeds
55-68 mph.
