2026 Thunderstorm Wind Event ...

End Date: August 8 2026 
End Time: 5:55 PM EDT 
End Location: 2 mi WSW Springfield 
End Lat/Lon: 42.09/-72.57

A line of severe thunderstorms brought areas of tree and power line
damage across Berkshire County before moving east through
Hampshire and Hampden Counties. The first Severe Thunderstorm
Warning was issued at 441 PM for 60 mph winds. A second Severe
Thunderstorm Warning was issued at 543 PM for both 60 mph winds
and the chance for quarter-sized hail. The severe thunderstorms
produced a macroburst that began at 545 PM on Kings Highway near
Prince Street in West Springfield. The storm produced numerous
instances of tree and power line damage as well as minor building
damage as it moved southeast. More significant damage occurred
near Dwight Street Extension in Springfield, MA, at 555 PM when
thunderstorm winds caused roof damage and a partial building
collapse. The highest wind speeds along the damage path were
estimated between 60 and 70 mph. The strong winds and macroburst
then rapidly weakened near Marble Street.
