Survey Summary:
The NWS survey team confirmed a tornado touched down in New
London early Wednesday morning. The initial damage occurred at
the New London Recreation Area near the small baseball field,
where the storm blew over one of the bullpens. The tornado then
tracked northeast, snapping a large hardwood tree in Grove Street
Cemetery, with maximum wind speeds estimated at 90 mph. Several
other large tree limbs in the cemetery were also broken.

Continuing into the residential area of New London, the
tornado snapped and brought down several large tree tops and
limbs, damaging two homes. Residents reported their ears popping
and their homes shaking during the event. Further along its path,
the tornado uprooted a large hardwood tree and landed it on a
home. The home suffered roof damage from the fallen tree. Another
uprooted tree fell onto power lines, snapping three utility poles
and blocking the roadway. Before dissipating, the tornado also
knocked down several panel fences.

The NWS appreciates the New London Fire Department and Huron
County EMA for their help during the storm survey.
