Survey Summary:
A line of severe thunderstorms moved east into southern MD Monday
evening June 22, 2026. This line of storms was the cause of a
widespread severe weather outbreak across portions of both VA and
MD. One of the storms developed rotation as it moved out of St. Mary’s
County and across the Patuxent River into Calvert County.

Once that storm moved into Calvert County, terminal doppler 
weather radar at Joint Base Andrews (TADW) indicated an 
intensifying rotation as it neared Battle Creek, moving quickly
east at 50 mph. A drone video captured the tornado developing, and
tornadic damage was first reported off Honey Cove Court on the 
west shore of Battle Creek. Several large branches were snapped on
several trees, one fell onto a dock. An eyewitness on Shamrock Ct
on the east shore of Battle Creek saw the tornado crossing the 
creek before they took shelter. More tree damage was reported 
along Shamrock Court, as well as along Crane Road and Shannon Way.
An eyewitness off Crane Road passed along a video recording of 
rotating and lofted leaf debris. After crossing Shannon Way, the 
tornado lifted, although intermittent minor tree damage continued 
in St. Leonard due to downburst winds after the rotation weakened.

Office thanks the Calvert County Office of Emergency Management 
for their assistance. Additionally, thanks to the trained 
spotters, media, and public that sent in videos of the tornado, as
well as damage reports.
