Survey Summary:
Supercell developed over eastern Mellette county, eventually
pushing into northwestern Tripp county where it produced a tornado
5 miles west of Ideal based on numerous storm chaser reports. The
storm had a large bowl funnel surrounded by rain curtains, quickly
obscuring any small vorticies in contact with the ground. This
trend continued as the storm moved off to the south-southeast. The
storm produced it's first reported damage at 7:02 PM CDT, damaging
several outbuildings along 308th Ave. Emergency management reported
damage to the outbuildings with significant roof damage. The
tornado then continued to the east over mostly rural areas,
continuing to produce small spin-ups. Last storm chaser report
came 4 miles east-northeast of Ideal where the tornado was
observed over rural fields.
