...NWS Damage Survey for 05/31/26 Tornado Event...

.Multiple supercell thunderstorms moved across portions of southeast
South Dakota during the evening of May 31st. Five tornadoes were 
documented from these storms.

Survey Summary:
A tornado touched down in an open field south of 263rd St, 
moving slowly to the northeast. At times, the tornado exhibited 
smaller brief vortices. The tornado passed over a farmstead along 
263rd St, west of 438th Ave, damaging an old barn before lifting.

Survey Summary:
A tornado touched down in an open field southwest of the
intersection of 266th St and 459th Ave. The tornado moved to the
northeast and across a farmstead where it damaged two barns and 
a fence and downed several large tree limbs. The tornado moved
northeast across 266th St before lifting in an open field to the
north.

Survey Summary:
The tornado touched down in an open field west of 466th Ave and 
north of 291st St. The tornado then moved southeast toward a 
farmstead at the intersection of 466th Ave and 291st St, where 
minor tree damage was reported. The primary circulation then 
broadened and at times exhibited smaller brief vortices. 
Additional minor tree damage occurred before the tornado lifted 
in the vicinity of 291st St and 467th Ave.

Survey Summary:
A very brief tornado rotating around a much larger mesocyclone
moved southeast to northwest across Mount Hope Dairy, destroying
one barn and damaging another before quickly lifting. Debris from
the barns was scattered north of 290th St in a southwest to
northeast orientation.
