880 NOUS44 KBRO 100111 PNSBRO TXZ248>255-351-353>355-451-454-455-101315- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Brownsville TX 811 PM CDT Sat May 9 2026 ...NWS Damage Survey for 05/09/2026 for Microburst Event from Harlingen to Laureles,TX... .Overview...During the morning of May 9, 2026, a microburst descended from a severe thunderstorm and caused isolated to scattered structural damage to roofs, traffic lights, fences, homes, trailers, and power poles as well as trees in north- central Cameron County, Texas. There were 3 injuries that we know of. All injuries were minor and were residence of mobile homes. .Severe Thunderstorm Microburst Winds... Peak Wind /Estimated/: 65-80 mph Path Length: 12.9 miles Path Width: 1 mile Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 3 Start Date: May 9, 2026 Start Time: 1007 AM CDT Start Location: Harlingen, TX Start Lat/Lon: 26.16/-97.68 End Date: May 9, 2026 End Time: 1032 AM CDT End Location: Laureles, TX End Lat/Lon: 26.11/-97.48 Summary: Just after 1000 AM CDT May 9, 2026, a strong microburst descended from a squall line causing damage along a northwest to southeast oriented line starting from Harlingen, TX continuing through Laureles, TX, causing damage to traffic lights, several homes, powerlines, poles, fences, crops, and trees. Overall, at least a dozen homes had various degrees of damage. The worst damage was to a poorly constructed single wide type structure. At least 5 RVs/mobile homes (with wheels; unanchored) were damaged. Hundreds of medium to large tree limbs were blown down. Several signs including billboards were blown down. Power poles and lines were blown down in a unilateral direction. At least a dozen wooden poles snapped on or near San Jose Road. Additionally, at least 45,000 customers were without power at peak or just after the storms crossed the IH-2 corridor and through central Cameron County. This may include Bayview and South Padre Island.
